Designer Elizabeth Emanuel pulled on a pair of leggings for the Fashion Rules Exhibition at Kensington Palace in London.
The clothing guru, who is famous for designing Princess Diana's wedding dress, wore a cream coat and a black top, with black leggings and comfortable flat black sandals to the star studded event.
Despite her restrained outfit, the designer's wacky hairstyle certainly made her stand out on the red carpet.
The exhibition features a range of royal dresses from throughout the 20th century, worn by such luminaries as Elizabeth II and her sister Margaret.
Other guests who attended the exhibition included Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Gillian Anderson and Hayley Atwell. Unlike Elizabeth, they all opted to flash their pins in dresses, with Gillian modelling a classic LBD and Sophie looking chic in white.
Hayley showed her style credentials in a black dress with flowing white sleeves and a blue collar.
