Festival all black and white for Little Mix

Festival all black and white for Little Mix

Little Mix showed they still have the X-factor as they wowed the crowds at London's Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival with their stunning outfits and high energy dance moves.

Jesy Nelson took to the Hyde Park stage in black leather shorts and boots, black fish net tights and a matching fish net crop top for a performance which has been compared by some to Beyonce's half-time show at the Super Bowl.

The other members of Little Mix - who shot to fame after winning The X Factor in 2011 - Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, also sported similar looks. Perrie wore the exact same get up as Jesy, while Jade and Leigh-Anne opted for matching white ensembles.

Little Mix, who have had two UK number one hits and sold more than four million singles around the world, weren't the only high-profile names keeping the Hyde Park crowd entertained.

Tom Jones headlined the festival with other acts including Boyzone, 10cc and The Bootleg Beatles.

Family ballet opens in London

Family ballet opens in London

The English National Ballet is taking its production of Coppelia on tour following its opening in London.

And judging by photos taken at rehearsals Erina Takahashi - pictured alongside Daniel Kraus in her ballet shoes, tights and floral dress - and the rest of the cast have a real spring in their step.

Coppelia is a comic ballet which tells the story of toymaker Dr Coppelius, who invents a life-size dancing doll that he wants to bring to life.

A local villager, Franz, becomes infatuated, only for his fiancée Swanilda to then dress as the doll to show him the error of his ways, a move which fools the inventor into thinking his dream has come true.

Takahashi plays Swanilda in the family ballet with Kraus playing Dr Coppelius.

Following seven performances at London Coliseum, starting on July 23 and concluding on July 27, the tour moves on to Southampton's Mayflower Theatre in mid-October.

The tour, which finishes on November 8, also takes in Oxford's New Theatre and the Bristol Hippodrome.

Jennifer Wade wears leggings for Python

Jennifer Wade wears leggings for Python

It may be decades since the Monty Python phenomenon seemingly came to an end, but the popular troupe rolled back the years on Tuesday night as they returned for an exciting UK tour.

Fans gathered in their thousands at London's O2 Arena to watch the likes of John Cleese and Michael Palin perform on their first night.

John Cleese's fourth wife, Jennifer Wade, was one of the many adoring fans watching the 'greatest hits' performance.

She arrived alongside Cleese and the other Pythons - Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones - before they took to the stage.

Her low-key but effective ensemble was made up of skin tight black leggings , a long loose blue top and black boots, while her biker-style denim jacket featured leather arms.

Cleese entertained the audience with his famous Spanish Inquisition sketch while Palin was applauded for his Lumberjack Song.

The 10-night run show, which cost around £4.5million to stage, also involves an orchestra, dancers and plenty of special effects.

Why Lindsay's tights are a real wonder

Why Lindsay's tights are a real wonder

Wonder Woman is used to getting out of tight scrapes.

But the superhero was careful not to scrape her tights on the eve of a major comic book gathering in the US.

Comic book fan Lindsay Stanley donned wonderful white tights and the traditional Wonder Woman accoutrements, including the trademark gold tiara.

But it's not just comic book fans who will be attending. Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, actor Kiefer Sutherland and leading Marvel official Axel Alonso are also expected to attend the event at San Diego's Convention Centre.

Comic book devotees dressed as superheroes such as Batman, Iron Man, the Hulk and Daredevil - while Captain America, Darth Vader and Spiderman are also set to join in the fun.

Thousands of comic book enthusiasts are expected to attend the four-day gathering which will see celebrity-laced panel chats, film and TV showings, and amazing lectures.

Organisers bill the event as the first comic-strip convent, which celebrates its 45th edition this year.

The Comic-Con Convention runs from Thursday to Sunday (July 24-27).

Odd socks day raises £315 for charity

Odd socks day raises £315 for charity

Children's feet were a riot of colour - like sunshine after rainfall - in a bid to raise money for charity in Kent.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - all the rainbow's colours were on parade as a Sheerness primary school enjoyed an odd socks fundraiser.

Teachers and pupils alike at Sheerness's Halfway Houses in Southdown Road raised £315 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

This is in addition to the £210 the school had already raised from a baking sale.

The school put its sock-tastic fundraising imagination behind the cause after hearing about MND sufferer Nigel Prettyjohns, a Halfway resident.

Mr Prettyjohns works alongside the parents of one of the odd sock day's co-organisers, Gracie Honeysett, at Abbotts, Sittingbourne.

Gracie set up the day in tandem with fellow nine-year-old Jasmine Haynes on July 18.

Ryan Driver, the school's head teacher, was fulsome in his praise for both Jasmine and Gracie's initiative.

Mr Driver says that their fundraising project shows the exceptional "pupil voice" at the school.

He said they were allowed to manage the odd sock day themselves and helped to ensure that all involved had fun.

Trott socks it to them in Glasgow

Trott socks it to them in Glasgow

Laura Trott climbed out of her sickbed to compete and win in the Commonwealth Games 25km points race on Sunday.

But only days earlier she had been struggling to keep down anything but porridge following a nasty kidney infection, which was diagnosed last Thursday.

Despite this, she pulled on her white and red cycling attire including sports socks to participate in the competition.

After the race had ended, Trott was so shattered that she didn't even realise she had won, as she mistakenly congratulated her British team-mate!

The 22-year-old Harlow ace became England's second cycling gold medallist in the same month England staged the historic start to the Tour de France.

Trott said the Glasgow win bears comparison with her pair of Olympic golds two years ago at London 2012.

Hamill joins the dark side at the Empire

Hamill joins the dark side at the Empire

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill took some time out from the production of Episode VII of the blockbuster saga to check out another sci-fi film, Guardians of the Galaxy, at its UK premiere on Thursday.

Hamill, dressed all in black - just as he was as Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy - arrived at the aptly-named Empire Cinema in London's Leicester Square with his wife Marilou York, who was also all in black with a sequinned dress, tights and ankle boots.

Hamill, sporting a beard, has got Star Wars fans talking after it was announced he will be playing an older Luke Skywalker in the new movie.

The facial hair certainly gives him that older Jedi look in the mould of Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor, who both played Obi Wan Kenobi.

Hamill told reporters it is his understanding that co-star Harrison Ford is recovering well in the US after suffering a leg injury on set recently, and he said it was great to be acting on the old sets again as they bring back so many great memories for him.

Beyonce rocks the stage in fish net tights

Beyonce rocks the stage in fish net tights

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are wowing audiences across North America with their epic On The Run tour.

But it isn't just the music that is making headlines - their get-up is also capturing the imagination of the fashion world.

Beyoncé, in particular, is owning the stage thanks to a collection of stunning outfits; including a denim number complete with fishnet tights that had the opening night crowd in Miami fixed on her every move.

Black bodysuits, skin-tight leotards and knee high boots have also made appearances on the tour so far.

The concerts are based on the theme of a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, with Beyoncé and Jay-Z playing out the story via a series of interstitial videos on the big screen and a soundtrack of more than 40 tracks.

The power couple's personal life was thrown into question recently as Beyoncé changed the lyrics in the song Resentment, perhaps signalling Jay Z has been unfaithful.

This speculation has neither been confirmed nor denied though.

Their next concert will take place in Philadelphia on July 5.

Still dressed in their festival ensembles, including over the knee socks with denim shorts and leggings with hoodies, they left with their bags and tents in tow.

The crowds were spoiled for choice at this year's line up as Biffy Clyro and Calvin Harris headlined the Friday and Saturday evenings respectively, while Jake Bugg, Bastille and Kodaline took to the stage on Sunday before the Arctic Monkeys closed the weekend.

The huge clean up began on Monday as festival-goers exited the site, leaving tents, litter and wellies among other things behind.

Nina celebrates at T in the Park

Nina celebrates at T in the Park

T in the Park was twice as special for singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt this year.

The Edinburgh-born beauty celebrated turning 20 at this year's festival as well as performing in the King Tut's Wah Wah tent on Saturday.

The Peroxide singer sported a casual look for her performance made up of festival-favourite denim shorts, a top and leather jacket with knee high boots - which no doubt she'll have worn knee high socks underneath them.

Nina performed on the same stage last year, but after securing a top 40 hit and working on a new album she was given an evening slot this time around.

The star supposedly did not watch ex-boyfriend Ed Sheeran's set, despite seeing Ellie Goulding and Biffy Clyro - who performed directly before and after the Lego House singer on the main stage.

Ed Sheeran's new album X features a song written about and named after Nina.

Grimmy's Allstars take a thrashing

Grimmy's Allstars take a thrashing

The England netball squad showed no mercy to a team of Radio One DJs led by Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw when they trounced them 27-0.

Grimmy led the Radio 1 Allstars in the clash against the national team on Thursday, with all adorned in striking sports socks .

But the combined talents of Greg James, Danny Howard, Daniel P Carter. Chris Stark, Dev and Twin B were no match for them and they couldn't even get one shot through the England net!

The idea for the match came from netball fan and actress Collette Cooper who recently appeared on Grimmy's breakfast show. It meant she had to miss netball training with her club.

There was plenty of good-natured banter via Twitter between the two sides before the clash, but the underlying tone to the tweets from the lads suggested they were not full of confidence in their abilities.

Dev tweeted that he would be scoring all the goals during the match, while Daniel P Carter included a link to a website listing the rules of the game.

Chris Stark and Greg James got in some 'promising' netball practice in the Radio 1 studios but it appears it didn't do them much good in the game as they failed to even get one goal on the scoreboard.

Sock lovers of the world unite!

Sock lovers of the world unite!

Sock -loving friends who got together to celebrate their passion for fine footwear have created a gang that's gone global.

From its beginnings in Newcastle, the British Sock Fetish Council (BSFC) now has over 700 members from Australia to Iceland, Russia to America.

And the Council even has a celebrity following too after comedians Alexei Sayle and Harry Hill - along with French footballer Gabriel Obertan - were pictured with BSFC membership cards.

Founder Reuven Fletcher, of Heaton in Newcastle, began by joking about his sock fetish on social media, but discovered he shared interests such as football, music and beer with others and set up the group.

He is now even turning his passion into profit, working with top designers Marko John's to come up with exciting sock styles that are being worn by members all over the world.

Fletcher has designs based on the International Brigade who fought in the Spanish Civil War, as well as more traditional versions in the colours of the BSFC crest.

The group also has also been raising money for the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign, Wimbledon Food Bank and the Checkemlads, which raises awareness about testicular cancer.
