Brits looking to get fit in time for their summer holiday are being urged to think carefully about their choice of wardrobe before beginning their exercise routines.
Many people spend a long time choosing gym or running trainers, however David Castle, editor of Running Fitness magazine, claimed that socks can be "almost as important as the shoes themselves".
Mr Castle added: "Wear a lightweight performance sock that wicks sweat away from the feet."
"Don't be tempted to go sockless - you'll pay the price."
He suggests that by wearing socks with additional padding or without seams, exercising can be a lot more comfortable.
While a muscle injury can cut short a workout, so can blisters, underlining the importance of selecting sensible sports socks
before joining a gym or starting jogging routine.
