Kelly Brook 'breaks first rule of leggings'

Kelly Brook 'breaks first rule of leggings'
Kelly Brook hit the gym this week in Los Angeles, seemingly forgetting her great sense of style while she was at home.

According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Kelly stepped out wearing a figure-hugging pink top, pairing it with a purple chic handbag and - horror of horrors - only a pair of leggings to cover the modesty of her bottom half.

Luckily, Kelly was able to make it back up when she strolled around LA in a flowing blue and white dress.

Her appearance in the US follows a high-profile saga regarding popular TV show Britain's Got Talent, from which she was dumped after being named a judge. Luckily, she got her full pay cheque.

She currently stars in Moving Wallpaper in a role as a "knock-off Lara Croft", fighting zombies in an apocalyptic setting.

Lohan and her leggings hit London

Lohan and her leggings hit London
Lindsay Lohan is no stranger to the spotlight when it concerns her love for legwear, rocking up in London this weekend to go shopping with girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

Following her DJ love interest to a series of gigs in the UK, the pair were spotted in Kings Road looking in a number of fashion outlets including a major lingerie store, leafing through deals on stockings and other hosiery.

Throughout the trip, with Lindsay wearing her trademark leggings throughout, Samantha seemed to lag behind, with the couple reportedly arguing on their way into Heathrow Airport after touching down in England.

Lindsay herself is selling trademark leggings across the world, naming the line 6126 after Marilyn Monroe's birth date, a person she sees as one of her idols.

'Eye can sort my socks out now!'

'Eye can sort my socks out now!'
A man has been fitted with a bionic eye, allowing him to see well enough to sort out his socks, it has emerged.

The patient, known simply as Ron, said: "It gives me grades of bright light to black and anything in between. I can actually sort out white socks, grey socks and black socks."

Ron had not been able to see for 30 years but now he can see light "coming through", which may mean he will be able to sort out his patterned socks some time soon.

He revealed that it was an honour to be involved in a project that may let people like himself see in the future.

The bionic eye works by having a small camera attached to the top of some glasses that sends images to electrodes inserted in the back of Ron's eye.

US company Second Sight, which was established in 1998 to create a retinal prosthesis to give sight to patients blinded from outer retinal degenerations, developed the technology.

Bejewelled tights are 'new take on jewellery'

Bejewelled tights are 'new take on jewellery'
Despite many people owning tights as a winter necessity for both warmth and fashion, a new style is going one step further: bejewelled tights.

Leah Southers of Pierce Mattie PR said the new trend hitting the catwalks of legwear with beads and precious stones is really taking off.

However, she was quick to point out the style was far from practical, particularly given her standing as a "notorious tights ripper".

She continued: "What if some of the rhinestones fell off? I can't bear to imagine it. They're too beautiful to wear to a club. A nice dinner, maybe. I'd be content to wear them around the house, honestly. Better safe than sorry."

Last week, Elle magazine highlighted the popularity of ripped legwear, noting that stars such as Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan were big fans.

Duffy steals GaGa's style in cheeky performance

Duffy steals GaGa's style in cheeky performance
Welsh singer Duffy, the new face of Diet Coke in a marketing campaign released recently, has seemingly - and cheekily - taken the style of American singer Lady GaGa at a recent performance.

The gravelly-voiced UK starlet, who broke onto the scene last year, turned up in Dusseldorf in an outfit reminiscent of the recent number one singer, wearing little more than a tuxedo jacket, black underwear and fishnet stockings, according to the Daily Mail.

Duffy did herself justice too, showing that her choice of legwear is just as reliable as her award-winning abilities, with the singer sweeping the Brit Awards for best breakthrough act, best British female singer and best album.

Rockferry, her debut album, has sold more than five million copies worldwide.

She is perhaps known best for her song Mercy, which shot to number one in the UK and across Europe.

Gordon, where's your trousers?

Gordon, where's your trousers?
Gordon Brown should be putting on his socks before his trousers, according to one writer who keeps seeing photographs of one leg of the prime minister's apparel tucked into his footwear.

Hugo Rifkind, writing for the Times, says he has lost track of the amount of times he has seen the prime minister committing the sartorial faux pas.

Mr Brown may take on the writer's advice and consider putting on his pair of patterned socks, or whatever type of footwear he enjoys donning, a little more carefully.

The writer comments: "It could be a hip-hop look, but you're not really a hip-hop kinda guy.

"Really, you look like you've got a hole in your pocket."

He adds that putting on socks before trousers is a trick that works every time.

In recent news, a blind man who was given a form of bionic eye is now able to see well enough to sort out his own socks, something that the prime minister may need help with.

Socks will 'never lose life' after post-feet application

Socks will 'never lose life' after post-feet application
Socks are a commodity to a person long after they are worn out, it has been stated. Kathryn McHolm of Northumberland Today spoke of the need for people to consider fixing their socks when holes appear whether they are fully at home with the concept of mending clothes.

If not, however, she recommends that people use them for another application, such as a hand puppet or cutting many into strips to aid with rug hooking, crocheting and braiding.

People in Quebec even used washed woollen socks as coffee filters in more economically harsh times, Ms McHolm added.

She continued: "The hat I'm wearing ... has a former sock as the medallion. However, if you're not blessed with nimble fingers and a creative bend, old socks make really good dusters!"

One of the most famous socks puppets, the Sock Monkey, has just been celebrated in a festival in Rockford this weekend, with the Nelson Knitting Company of Rockford inventing the creature during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Socks are a 'lifelong necessity'

Socks are a 'lifelong necessity'
Socks are a necessity in life and work, according to an American columnist.

Writing for Canyon News, James F Brown said that despite the bonuses that socks bring in terms of protection from abrasions, chafing and blistering, they are best applied as a tool for the professional wardrobe.

Sticking to darker hues with work socks is the best way, he reasons, adding that cotton is the best option to help wick moisture out from the foot.

Mr Brown also highlighted the need to buy them in similar colours, stating: "Somehow, washers and dryers eat socks, but only one of any pair. Sticking with plain, solid socks saves me much anguish.

"Socks are consumable items that need regular replacement."

One man who doesn't need any help matching his socks anymore is Ron, a patient who has recently had a bionic eye fitted which has allowed him to sort through his legwear, among other more pressing things.

Agyness Deyn is 'not all she's cracked up to be'

Agyness Deyn is 'not all she's cracked up to be'
Agyness Deyn may be applauded by many style moguls and budding fashionistas but a Daily Mail reporter refuses to be fooled by the so-called trends she dons at major functions.

Liz Jones states that Agyness' appearances at huge events for magazines and catwalks across the world are usually typified by a style so far out there that nobody can get why she dresses like she does.

She pointed to Agyness' ensemble at the Elle Style Awards, wearing an electric pink blazer with a questionable dress shirt and, strangely, some quite attractive tights and little black shoes.

Ms Jones notes that despite the great choice of legwear, nothing can quite save the model from her own choice of clothing!

Tatler also seemed to agree with this, with Agyness dropping out of the magazine's top ten list completely after finishing second last year.

Opaque tights are 'perfect for many situations'

Opaque tights are 'perfect for many situations'
Despite the future good weather working against the use of tights in one newspaper's community, there is still plenty of time to wear opaque tights, it is said.

According to the Bahamas' national newspaper, the Nassau Guardian, colour-saturated legwear will always be cool, with only good weather to stop a person from flaunting their legs in fancy hosiery.

Good job we're in the UK, isn't it?

The newspaper recommended that people pair footed tights with chunky heels, relegating stiletto use for bare legs. It is also recommended that people also use them with peep-toe pumps, boots or platforms.

Layering fishnet stockings with opaque tights is another popular trend with younger generations, it was added.

The news resource concluded: "If you're going to do it, do it right. Make sure your tights are indeed opaque and not semi-opaque or sheer."

Vogue magazine recently spoke of its love for Chanel's embrace with opaque tights, showing that even the biggest names in fashion can resist its charms.

Hosiery industry is 'thriving'

Hosiery industry is 'thriving'
Tights continue to be a big part of the fashion scene at the moment - so much so that it has made the legwear industry as good as recession-proof, according to an Australian company.

Speaking to the Herald Sun in the island nation, Marlene Smillie of the Melbourne-based Ambra Corporation said the use of stockings and leggings is particularly popular as it is a cheap and reusable accessory for most outfits, powering the market.

The expert continued: "Not only do we see hosiery as being a little bit recession-proof, it's actually a little bit of a trend.

"Everyone knows you put on a pair of black opaques and you really feel chic."

Ms Smillie added that coloured, printed and tartan tights are expected to rise in popularity over the coming months.

Legwear is not only fashionable but practical too, with James F Brown of Canyon News stating earlier this week that socks and tights can help protect pins from abrasions and chafing.

Men in tights is 'strangely popular look'

Men in tights is 'strangely popular look'
The desire for men to wear leggings may be a bit of a worry for a number of ladies, not least in how the fashion is longer a women-only accessory, it has been stated.

Eleanor Glover of the Daily Mail said that although leggings were "once the preserve" of glam rock stars and ballet dancers, big names are now starting to adopt the popular style.

These include Russell Brand and Noel Fielding, with Calvin Klein and Marni still continuing to push the trend.

She continued: "But is it only anorexic-looking male models and debonaire dandy comics who can pull off the look, and what would you do if your boyfriend or husband turned up in a pair of male leggings?"

Rumours are currently circulating that Russell Brand is to join heart-throb Johnny Depp in the proposed follow-up to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, starring as a pirate.

Comic Relief hits school scene

Comic Relief hits school scene
Comic Relief is reaching a number of offices, workplaces and factories across the country to unite in raising money for people in need, with one school in Somerset using socks to raise smiles.

The Yeovil Express highlighted the good work of Milford Infants' School in town, which is drumming up money today through the harnessing of hosiery and the sporting of socks that are a little different to the norm, raising smiles and cash along the way.

It will be accompanied by a range of activities to further boost the coffers of Comic Relief.

The headteacher, Wendy Chant, said the school was fully behind the cause, which it rated as "valuable" in today's society.

Comic Relief begins in earnest tonight, with all kinds of special programmes lined up, including the Celebrity Apprentice and a new episode of the Royle Family.

First it was leggings ... now it's the world

First it was leggings ... now it's the world
Although leggings are usually her forte, Lindsay Lohan has decided to expand to the world of fake tans after announcing her affiliation with tanning mist company Sevin Nyne.

The product, named after a spelling spin on her favourite numbers, contains a chemical called DHA - a tanning agent which is known not to stain the skin.

However, hosiery diva Lindsay still manages to mess up her new concept when going out herself, the Daily Mail states, with the actress and singer managing to mess up her own complexion with fake tan on a number of occasions.

It said: "Most of us would be embarrassed to leave the house with bright white feet or an orange forehead, but Lindsay seems oblivious."

Michelle Keegan is another person seemingly unable to realise her mistake when applying tans, according to the newspaper, who snapped her go from "white to fright" after a trip to Fake Bake spray salon in Liverpool.

Sock monkeys bring cheer

Sock monkeys bring cheer
A young lady who was diagnosed with cancer was cheered by her friend's creation - a monkey sock puppet - and now they are planning to make and sell more, it has been reported.

Maddie George was told she had cancer at the age of 23 and now with the help of her pal Holly Lambert they are turning old socks into toys to fund a decent wig, according to the Islington Gazette.

People are able to send their footwear, like patterned socks, to Ms Lambert and half of the money they make will go to the Lymphoma Association, the publication revealed.

"Holly made the first monkey when I got my diagnosis and it was a really sweet thing to do," Ms George told the news provider.

She added that the NHS wigs were not to her liking and if she had to wear one she would not leave the house.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a man who had lost his eyesight had been allowed to see with the help of new technology - well enough to sort his socks.

Lady goes GaGa with tights

Lady goes GaGa with tights
Lady GaGa is at it again with her off-kilter dress sense, this time for the first show of the Fame Ball Tour as she wore a coat made of bubbles, it has been reported.

She complemented the bubbly outfit with some fishnet tights at San Diego's House of Blues as she played a 45-minute set.

GaGa, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is to make 23 stops around the US before the tour finishes on April 11th in Palm Springs, California.

The pop star recently said that she expected the tour to be "like the ultimate creative orgasm".

She told Billboard.com: "I am so mental and sleepless and excited for this tour."

Perhaps she will be seen in other outrageous apparel with some funky socks or patterned tights.

It was recently reported that GaGa has been stopped by police as the outfits she was wearing were revealing too much to the general public.

Avril opts for star tights

Avril opts for star tights
Avril Lavigne opted for eye-catching tights as she took to the streets of London earlier this week.

The pop-punk princess wore the legwear while partying at the Boujis club in South Kensington, reports the Daily Mirror.

Ms Lavigne, whose hits include Girlfriend, Complicated and My Happy Ending, was photographed by the newspaper in a hoody, ballroom skirt and lace tights which featured a star pattern while out with a pal in the capital.

The 24-year-old Canadian songstress is currently in London promoting the launch of her Black Star perfume range.

Reports suggest that the fragrance is the first product in a planned cosmetic line which will bear the Sk8er Boi singer's name.

Earlier this month, fellow pop star Lady GaGa made a big impression with her outfit, when she wore a coat made of bubbles and fishnet tights at a House of Blues performance.

The quirky signer opted for the look to mark the first date of her Fame Ball tour.

'Tween' Dora set to feature stockings

'Tween' Dora set to feature stockings
A new updated version of the much-loved childrens cartoon character Dora the Explorer sports purple leggings.

The new 'tween' version of the Nickelodeon favourite is set to be unveiled by the broadcaster and toymaker Mattel.

However, despite her cool new leggings, the new Dora has attracted criticism from all directions over concerns that she has lost her image entirely.

Responding to the criticism, president of Nickelodeon Viacom consumer products suggested that the old Dora will not be lost beneath her new legwear and jewellery-laden facade.

She told the Associated Press: "People care so deeply about this brand and this character.

"Dora that we all know and love is not going away."

The character was originally intended to engage pre-school children in exploring exciting locations across the globe.

Nickelodeon recently introduced an interactive series of Dora the Explorer encouraging children to join in with her adventures.

The official tween version of Dora is set to be unveiled later this year.

Feltz fashion stocking 'faux pas'

Feltz fashion stocking 'faux pas'
Vanessa Feltz braved the streets of London in a pair of black stockings when she made her way around the capital earlier this week.

The star was snapped by photographers as she arrived at Soho Hotel in the capital.

However, the stockings did little to flatter the BBC radio presenter, who had teamed the legwear with a black sequinned dress.

The 47-year-old must be doing something right, however, having recently got engaged to her toyboy partner, 36-year-old Ben Ofoedu.

Tights have recently caught the attention of the press - after an interview with male pantyhose fan Harisnya appeared in the Metro.

Speaking to the newspaper, Harisnya said: "I like the soft material, the support it gives to my legs and body, and because I find it very practical."

Maybe Vanessa can be forgiven for her fashion faux pas on this occasion in light of this recent stockings news.

Karen O is 'stylish in stockings'

Karen O is 'stylish in stockings'
Karen O, the lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has been praised for her love of legwear by an online fashion guru.

According to The Frisky, Karen O's style is admirable and one to follow by young stylistas hoping to get a foot on the trend ladder.

The magazine said in light of a recent photo shoot showing Karen O with the group, people need to "rock these wicked blue tights all the way to summer", with her matching pleated skirt adding to the impact of the outfit.

It was added that leather jackets to match the look are the "new trench coats for spring", highlighting the stylish nature of Karen for ladies to follow in the coming months.

The new album from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, It's Blitz, was leaked before its release and Karen O registered her sadness over the situation, stating that it was "a bit like when you get punched in the stomach".

Leggings look is 'questionable' on X Factor singer

Leggings look is 'questionable' on X Factor singer
X Factor finalist Ruth Lorenzo was striding proudly through the streets of Dublin in wet-look leggings this week, although it wasn't as successful as the same look on her TV counterparts, it is said.

The singer, who is notably happy with her curves to the point where she finds the idea of dropping below ten stone to be alarming, paired the legwear with red high heels and leather jacket - much to the chagrin of the Daily Mail.

It noted that "it seems the error of her ways dawned on her as she walked along the street and at one point she tried to hide her derriere with her large red bag".

However, the newspaper stated that despite her fashion faux-pas, her cohorts Cheryl Cole and Alexandra Burke are adept at pulling off the look, using them more modestly with longer tops.

According to Shudoo, both Alexandra and Ruth are rumoured to have had a shouting match over a dancer from the show, putting tension between the pair who became firm friends in the X Factor.

Leggings trend 'refuses to go away'

Leggings trend 'refuses to go away'
Magazine editors are getting "giddy" over the coming fashions on the catwalks, according to a report from a major US newspaper.

The Los Angeles Times noted that many trends currently parading up and down the runways of style houses were becoming more edgy.

However, one can always count on leggings, it was said, with the newspaper labelling the legwear as the "trend that refuses to go away".

Commenting on the current state of affairs, it was said that "there were more measured takes on the tough chic look - black leather leggings worn with a long boyfriend blazer, the black leather bustier or bomber jacket".

The newspaper concluded: "I guess if nothing else, sex always sells."

Britney Spears' return to the limelight has been characterised by an agreeable fashion sense, it has been well-documented, with the singer stepping out in leggings this week while in Montreal.

Despite being on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, Lily Allen and her brother's girlfriend, Jaime Winstone, were both spotted wearing denim hotpants at the same time.

In the leggy parade, Jaime sunned it up in the Los Angeles heat in a simple vest and shorts combo alongside bare legs, although the colder weather was a deciding factor in Lily's get-up, the Daily Mail noted, with the singer pulling on the black opaque tights which never seem to fall out of fashion.

The two stars have been getting along well ever since Jaime started dating Alfie Owen-Allen, with the friends appearing at a number of catwalks and major social functions together.

Ankle socks will be 'a mini-trend of the summer'
Fashionistas should be prepared to go back to school if they are going to get ahead on the style trends which will dominate the catwalks in the summer, it has been said.

According to FemaleFirst, the mini-trends are key to a person's finishing touches, with legwear coming top of the list after were ankle socks were identified as a key style to perfect.

Teaming the hosiery with trainers or heels will be very in-vogue, the news resource continued, with Alexa Chung and Chloe Sevigny already displaying the fashion in recent weeks.

FemaleFirst added: "Our top tip is to accessorise your socks with bows, jewels and sequins, if plain white is a bit too much of a safe option for you."

It will follow a trend picked up on by Tess Daly in the Daily Mirror, who earmarked over-the-knee socks as in-vogue at the close of 2008.

Megan Fox, the star of blockbuster film Transformers, stepped out in a stunning pair of tights while walking around Hollywood this week.

Leggings have 'brought about poor use'

Leggings have 'brought about poor use'
Leggings are here to stay but not everyone has got the legwear down perfectly, according to a fashionista from across the Atlantic.

Regan Toomer, a women's style expert at the Examiner chain of newspapers in the US, said her sister had highlighted a by-product of the leggings trend which was not a great look to rock around in.

She said: "That trend being that some women are wearing leggings instead of pants and while that look can be pulled off by some, there comes a point where you get the wrong attention with that look."

Ms Toomer recommended that people use leggings with a tunic or dress style instead, as this way many fabrics, colours and lengths can be worn.

Denim leggings could be the next step in fabrics should a person want to snap up the funkiest of legwear options this summer, according to a recent FabSugar report.

Denim leggings are 'trend for the future'

Denim leggings are 'trend for the future'
Combinations of popular styles from 2008 could result in a new trend for 2009, with a legwear renaissance hitting the shelves in the spring and summer.

FabSugar UK stated that skinny jeans and leggings were all the rage last year, with the tight-fitting look set to stay with the newest idea.

The magazine said: "It's not a big surprise then that the two have combined for spring 2009 to create denim leggings, or should that be denim treggings?"

It was explained that stars such as Kate Bosworth have already been seen in and around more fashionable parts of the world in a pair of denim leggings, with the trend "popping up all over the high street from as little as £12".

Kate Bosworth recently split up with long-term boyfriend James Rousseau after a three-year relationship, attributing their split to conflicting work schedules.

Footwear genius 'always considered legwear'

Footwear genius 'always considered legwear'
Despite her passing not being massively reported in 2006 after a good innings of 91 years, Beth Levine - a shoe designer - should be posthumously congratulated by legwear lovers, it is said.

Linda Miller of NewsOK stated that the innovator, who is best known for her famous shoes, created footwear for Patricia Nixon, Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe and Lady Bird Johnson under her husband's self-titled clothing line, Herbert Levine.

However, it is perhaps her Spring-o-lator mules which tights fans should love her for the most - a pair of backless shoes with an elastic liner to keep them on their feet when wearing stockings - something she proved in a sprint across the lobby of a New York hotel.

Upon her death, the New York Times' obituary highlighted her work with Nancy Sinatra, the woman who wore her footwear when singing These Boots are Made for Walkin' when making TV appearances.

Xtina reveals slimmer figure in tights

Xtina reveals slimmer figure in tights
Christina Aguilera, the 28-year-old pop superstar, looked radiant at a recent birthday bash after it became apparent that she had returned to her original physique from before having her baby.

Proud to have lost her weight slowly after giving birth to first child Max Liron in January 2008, Christina celebrated by wearing a stunning Agent Provocateur leotard with fishnet tights to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's 31st birthday party.

Strutting on stage in knee-high black Louboutin boots, she stunned audiences with a Marilyn Monroe-esque performance, singing Happy Birthday Mr Perez-ident - very clever!

Fashion-wise, Lady GaGa has been described as stealing the style of Christina, with the two-time number one artist also perhaps drawing certain ideas from the likes of Gwen Stefani.
