Witherspoon finds tights a bother while riding

Witherspoon finds tights a bother while riding
Legally Blonde Reese Witherspoon star told Showbizspy that it was a "nightmare" to have to wear leg wear while riding a horse for the new movie, which will be released next month.

"I trained to ride an elephant for about three months before filming but I was always wearing jeans," she told the website.

"So when I showed up on set and I actually had to get up there in tights I was like 'Ouch!' My legs felt like they were getting stabbed by little needles."

She went on to speak about her experiences working with Twilight star Robert Pattinson for the movie saying he is the "nicest guy".

Water for Elephants concerns a young man who joins a circus in Depression-era America, and falls in love with Witherspoon's equestrian performer Marlena.

Jessie J reveals love of funky tights

Jessie J reveals love of funky tights
In an interview with Digital Spy,  Do It Like a Dude star Jessie J said she does not like to be compared with the likes of Cheryl Cole and Rihanna, adding that she doesn't think she can compete with their beauty.

However, she revealed that she has an obsession with funky tights, something her fans seem only too happy to indulge.

"People always comment on my tights," she told the website.

"I've got a huge box of them under my bed. I've been sent thousands of pairs, which is good because I always rip them on my jewellery."

After winning the BBC Sound of 2011 and Critic's Choice at the Brit Awards this year, Jessie J last week released her 13-track debut album, Who You Are, which features solo hits Do It Like a Dude and Price Tag.

Finally - a missing socks support group

Finally - a missing socks support group
Foot wear is known to go missing from time to time, and one organisation has dedicated itself to responding to the plight of misplaced socks.

The Lost and Orphaned Sock Society (LOSS), a division of GE Appliances, is inviting people to submit reports of missing socks, while a helpline has been established to provide support for those who have mislaid their footwear.

"This is going to address one of society’s oldest problems," said Jennifer Schoenegge, product manager of clothes care at GE Appliances.

"It delves into answering the question of why those socks go missing."

LOSS also encourages people to use its missing poster editing application and display it as their Facebook profile picture in the hope of tracking down errant hosiery.

According to a recent survey by shopping site Kelkoo, men spend an average of one month of their lives searching for missing socks.

Trees with socks surprise Sammamish residents

Trees with socks surprise Sammamish residents
A group of tree stumps near Eastlake High School in Sammamish, US have been decorated in an unusual way - with huge knitted "tree socks".

Local arts and culture agency 4Culture has agreed to provide $3,000 (£1,800) for the colourful adornments, which fit completely over the bare trunks and have been met with approval by local residents, the Sammamish Review reports.

Artists spent hours unravelling old afghans to make the blue and white socks.

"Public art is there to make people ask questions and elicit different responses from people," said arts commissioner Barbara Jirsa.

"There's been a lot of feedback and that's been a great thing."

Recently, the Manila Standard reported that wine lovers have found another great use for socks, using them as bottle coverings during blind tastings.

Vanessa Hudgens rocks fishnet tights on Letterman

Vanessa Hudgens rocks fishnet tights on Letterman
High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens seems to be trying to move away from her sweet Disney image by turning heads with some risque legwear.

Hudgens, 22, recently appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman wearing a hot pink dress, stiletto heels and fishnet tights, the Daily Mail reports.

She was also snapped pairing the same tights with a short cocktail dress while shopping on New York's Madison Avenue.

Speaking to David Letterman, in between discussing her role in the Beauty and the Beast reimagining Beastly, Hudgens also revealed she's taken further steps to shed the nice-girl look by getting a tattoo.

"It was very last minute, but I've actually wanted it for years. A butterfly landed on my mum's stomach a week before I was born and that's how I got my name, because Vanessa means butterfly - it's a Latin derivative," the newspaper reports her as saying.

"It's my very first tattoo, and I kind of feel like a badass now!"

Beastly was released in the US on March 4th and also stars Mary-Kate Olsen and Alex Pettyfer.

Sock puppets to help children in disaster-hit countries

Sock puppets to help children in disaster-hit countries
People in Ohio are getting together to turn foot wear into special charity gifts which could bring a smile to the faces of children in poverty.

Avis Mathews, who runs a sock puppet workshop at a local library, helped to send 400 of the toys to children in Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic last year, and has set a goal of 1,000 for 2011, the Warren Tribune Chronicle reports.

"It really has become a community effort. This is just one way we can help spread joy to children and bring them a toy," she told the newspaper.

"Many people in Hubbard help make the sock puppets."

Socks will be provided to anybody who wants to make a contribution, and yarn and buttons donations have been gratefully received.

Meanwhile, the weekend saw the ninth incarnation of the Annual Sock Money Madness Festival at the Midway Village Museum Centre in Rockford, Illinois, according to the Rockford Examiner.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wears funky tights to state dinner

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wears funky tights to state dinner
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the glamorous wife of the French president, raised some eyebrows at a recent state dinner by turning up to the sombre affair in funky tights.

The function at the Elysee Palace in Paris saw the French first lady arrive in a stylish one-shoulder black cocktail dress, combined with flat shoes and lacy tights.

Her ensemble no doubt caught the eyes of South African president Jacob Zuma and his wife, Gloria Bongi Ngema-Zuma, who were visiting the French leader to discuss the political situation in the Ivory Coast.

Despite her undisputed sartorial elegance, Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy was recently beaten to the punch by American TV presenter Anne Sinclair, the wife of her husband's political rival Dominique Strauss-Kahn, in a poll that quizzed the French on who they would like to see as the next first lady.

Ade Edmondson a 'bald, bespectacled swan' in tights

Ade Edmondson a 'bald, bespectacled swan' in tights
Stand down, Natalie Portman - alternative comedian Ade Edmondson has taken to the stage to prove it's not just girls who can do ballet.

Together with pop stars Chesney Hawkes, Limahl and Toyah, the 54-year-old Young Ones star pulled on his tights, tutu and ballet shoes to give a heartwarming rendition of Swan Lake on Let's Dance for Comic Relief.

Judge John Bishop was delighted with the performance, saying: "I thought it was beautiful - the poise, the grace, the elegance.

"It was like seeing a real life bald swan with glasses."

The dance was topped off with a trademark bop on the head with a frying pan from Edmondson's comedy partner Rik Mayall.

Comedian Marcus Brigstocke also put in a turn on the show, dressing in a karate outfit for Carl Douglas' Kung Fu Fighting.

Mattek-Sands brings novelty socks to tennis

Mattek-Sands brings novelty socks to tennis
With her unconventional dress sense and penchant for knee-length footwear, Bethanie Mattek-Sands has been called tennis' answer to Lady Gaga.

The 25-year-old, who is currently the highest-ranked American player in the BNP Paribas Open field, is well-known for sporting knee-high socks during a match and often surprises her opponents with more outlandish ensembles, the Desert Sun reports.

"I don't know if I have the balls to wear a meat dress, but I like Lady Gaga's creativity," she told the newspaper.

"I'm not there yet, it's but something to strive for."

At the 2006 Wimbledon tournament, for instance, she wore knee-high socks with short shorts, a tank top and chandelier earrings, and the novelty socks are now housed in the Wimbledon museum.

Recently, Spanish ace Rafael Nadal set ladies' pulses racing by baring almost all in a fashion shoot for Emporio Armani.

Museum to auction celebrity socks

Museum to auction celebrity socks
Fans of celebrities and their leg wear have a unique opportunity ahead of them, when a museum puts 26 items including socks and tights under the hammer.

Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum received the garments as a donation last year, BBC News reports, and is now going to auction them off to the public to raise cash.

Items include a pair of leopard-print tights worn by Bond girl Gemma Arterton and socks that once belonged to Tim Henman, Michael Winner, Maureen Lipman, Richard Wilson and Marti Pellow.

Audrey Winkler, trustee of the museum, gathered the collection after spending a year writing to celebrities.

"The money will help some of our activities during the year but we are mindful that in the current financial climate an independent museum like ours needs some reserves," she said.

The Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum also sells Choc Sock Lollipops - unique hosiery treats created by local chocolatiers.

Complement sexy tights with a new statement skirt

Complement sexy tights with a new statement skirt
Investing in a new statement skirt could be a great way to update your wardrobe this winter, ensuring that you stay on trend, it has been claimed.

Pairing stylish tights with a statement skirt and sheer shirt could make for a great autumn/winter 2011 look, if advice from Nicky Hambleton-Jones is anything to go by.

The fashion and beauty expert noted that some of this year's trends are looking "really exciting".

She also underlined the growing pervasiveness of costume jewellery.

"Go big on jewellery to instantly get the luxurious baroque look. Accessorize and Butler & Wilson have a great range of costume jewellery to jazz up any outfit - think big crystal necklaces and embellished, gold bangles," she explained.

Earlier this week, French president Nicolas Sarkozy's glamorous wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy showed that she is still in touch with fashion.

The beauty raised eyebrows at a state dinner by wearing lacy tights.

Socks comedy coming to Redditch

Socks comedy coming to Redditch
A YouTube sensation that uses foot wear as a central part of its act is bringing its creations to the Palace Theatre in Redditch.

The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Company, which uses a heady mix of sketches, songs and comic violence, is coming to the venue for the second time on March 18th, the Redditch Standard reports.

It is the creation of comedian Kev F Sutherland and has been touring since 2008, as well as appearing on television shows such as BBC's The One Show and Channel 4's Big Brother's Little Brother.

"There's something very English, or perhaps I should say Scottish, about a room full of adults watching two grey socks with ping-pong ball eyes swearing at each other in high-pitched Scottish accents," Palace Theatre press officer Paul Hughes told the newspaper.

"It is so funny it is almost family entertainment although it is aimed at 'big kids' only."

Tights to brighten up conservative outfits this autumn

Tights to brighten up conservative outfits this autumn
Foot wear has been used to jazz up some of the new looks appearing on the catwalks, after the Seattle Times proclaimed that "frumpy is the new funky".

This autumn will see styles that are "both retro and wearable", according to the newspaper, with cardigan sweaters replacing tunics and skirts getting longer.

However, many of these outfits at New York's Lincoln Center were given some extra dazzle with tights in opaque solids or patterns, with some designers adding ankle socks over the tights or replacing them with knee-length socks.

"People are finally more interested in covering up," the newspaper reports designer Yoana Baraschi as saying.

"We are trying to be sexy and be alluring at the same time."

X Factor star Cher Lloyd recently showed her own take on this "granny" look, with thick woollen tights paired with pink ankle socks.

Lighten up with some funky tights

Lighten up with some funky tights
Summer is still some way off yet, but one way to banish the cold weather blues is to equip yourself with a few sets of funky tights.

The London School of Economics' student newspaper the Beaver said "almost anything goes" in the coming season's tight trends, from 90s grunge nostalgia with neon fishnets to psychedelic rainbow patterns.

"Bold, heroic and unapologetic; this new generation of tights seeping through the high street stores are more dangerous than safe and should probably come with a health and safety tag," said the newspaper's Yan Giet.

"This season sees tights take the forefront centrepiece of your outfit, from eclectic to electric."

Recently, deputy prime minister's wife Miriam Clegg was chastised by the Daily Telegraph's fashion reporter Sarah Mower for pairing burgundy tights with a not-quite-matching set of shoes in raspberry shade.

Funky tights making waves on the catwalks

Funky tights making waves on the catwalks
Leg wear is looking good on the catwalks this season, according to some fashion commentators, who noted some of the efforts designers are making to get funky tights in fashion.

The University of York's student website Nouse said designer Aminaka Wilmont has been making high socks look "cute and sexy" when paired with grungy animal print dresses.

Meanwhile, tights have been going strong, with the website commenting: "Bernard Chadran's lavish catwalk topped off block-coloured outfits with matching tights, as did Carlotta Actis Barone, whose text tights, gave a more intricate, yet equally powerful effect."

Meanwhile, Jazzkatze offered "luxurious, eccentric tights" embellished with clusters of pearls.

Ten Years Younger presenter Nicky Hambleton-Jones recently gave her predictions for autumn/winter fashion trends, saying a "statement skirt" is a great way to update your wardrobe, when paired with a sheer shirt or cashmere jumper.

Black Swan style gets an Indian flavour

Black Swan style gets an Indian flavour
Ballet fashion shows no signs of slowing down, following the success of Darren Aronofsky's hit psychological thriller Black Swan.

According to Asha Chowdary in the Times of India, tutus, tights and ballet shoes are in as fans strive to emulate Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis' looks in the film.

Fashion designer Anu Nagappa said the style caught on in the west and is now moving to India in the form of sheer skirts, harem pants and layered dresses.

"We are beginning to see Black Swan's light and dark ballerina influences, with pink pumps and lacy black tights appearing on the high street," she told the newspaper.

Ms Nagappa added that youngsters are able to experiment with both sides, whether the White Swan's "soft, innocent pale colours in chiffon and tight tulle" or the Black Swan's "harsher, harder lace, colours and corseted shapes".

In an online vote by readers of Hello Magazine, the gown Natalie Portman wore to the Oscars was recently named the most stunning of the night.

Miller and Moss rock boots and tights combo

Miller and Moss rock boots and tights combo
Sienna Miller and Kate Moss have both been snapped out and about while showing ladies the right way to pair boots with tights.

Hollywood Life reports that both models were seen going for similar looks in London, demonstrating how to survive in the cold weather while still looking great.

Sienna went for a more casual style with a grey sweater, dark tights and short boots, while Kate glammed it up a little more by throwing on a textured jacket to complete her black outfit.

"While Sienna's look is more casual, Kate stuck to a very stylish all-black get-up," said Hollywood Life.

"Even though she opted for a monochrome look, the texture of the oversized jacket and the varying proportions really set her style apart."

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that Kate Moss caught up with showbiz friend Sadie Frost, who like Sienna Miller went for a tights and shorts combo.

California boy donates 2,000 socks to charity

California boy donates 2,000 socks to charity
A 12-year-old boy in San Marcos, California has contributed to keeping the feet of the homeless warm by donating an incredible 2,000 pairs of socks to charity.

Parker Ward began a non-profit organisation he called Parker's Pairs and initially aimed to collect 500 pairs of socks for homeless people, but ended up receiving four times as many, the North County Times reports.

He gathered the hosiery through appeals on his website and a neighbourhood flyer campaign, delivering half to Interfaith Community Services and the rest to the Salvation Army.

"One day my feet got cold, and that made me think of the homeless shelters, and that made me want to donate to shelters," he explained to the newspaper.

The news comes after the Tigard Times reported that Oregon resident Carly Cais has set about donating socks to people devastated by the earthquake in Japan.

Complete your wedding outfit with the right legwear
If you have a wedding coming up, it's essential to get your leg wear perfect as it forms a part of your overall outfit, Perfect Wedding magazine has said.

Helen Webster, editor of the magazine, said she has seen a trend for longer dresses for the "princess look", but equally some brides want to show off their shows and hosiery.

"I have seen a few [tights] that have got more detailing on; so maybe brides have a three-quarter length to show of the shoes and then picking tights that have got a little bit of detail so maybe a polka dot detail or some kind of crystal at the back," she added.

Recently, brides-to-be got plenty of inspiration about all aspects of their big days at the British Bridal Exhibition in Harrogate, which ran from March 13th to the 15th.

How to celebrate spring - burn your socks

How to celebrate spring - burn your socks
Foot wear is subject to some unusual traditions around the world, so perhaps it is no surprise that the people of Eastport, Annapolis in the US celebrate the coming of spring each year by burning their socks.

According to Patch.com, people in the Maryland capital observe the vernal equinox with an oyster roast and sock-burning, accompanied by live music and ice cream.

The tradition dates back to the 1980s, when local marina owner Bob Turner set light to his footwear following an especially harsh winter.

"It's just a unique, quirky way we can celebrate spring," Jeff Holland, director of the Annapolis Maritime Museum, told the publication.

Even more strangely, Annapolis isn't the only place in the US that follows this tradition - according to Isthmus.com, the people of Sauk City, Wisconsin throw their socks on a bonfire to mark the arrival of warmer weather.

Fashion designers start to think pink

Fashion designers start to think pink
Pink leg wear could be all the rage this spring, as this season's in-colour has been hailed as honeysuckle.

In the Daily Telegraph, Julia Robson said the girly-girl shade is back in style, with some fashion stores in London selling out of pink items in recent days - which could mean it's time to bag your pink tights before it's too late.

Shirley Smith, an image consultant at Colour Me Beautiful, told the newspaper: "When we first showed our range at London Fashion Week in 2010, we got such huge orders for the pink pieces, especially from Italy and Japan, it became part of the brand's identity."

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis recently showed ladies how to work the colour when she appeared at the 2011 Genesis Awards in a hot pink frock.

Hurdler sports rainbow socks to success
A hurdle champion from Tampa Bay, Florida has stood out from the crowd in more ways than one, after wearing eye-catching rainbow-striped socks with black cheetah prints to an event when he managed to beat his personal best time.

Rayshawn Jenkins attended the second annual University of South Florida/Steinbrenner Invitation in hosiery that suggested he meant business, before going on to win the 100-metre hurdle event in 14.47 seconds, the St Petersburg Times reports.

"They make fun of me [for the socks]," he told the newspaper after the event.

"But I can back it up."

The invitational attracted some 2,000 competitors in all and had an on-track temperature of a scorching 102 degrees F at its hottest.

Marathon Mama recently emphasised the importance of having high-quality sports socks for competitive events, saying compression socks can prevent swelling in the calves.

Sock Monsters business launched in Sheffield

Sock Monsters business launched in Sheffield
A mother from Sheffield has found a great way to put old foot wear back into service - as toys for children.

Catherine Knowles has launched a business called Sock Monsters, the Sheffield Star reports, after getting busy with a needle and thread to make brightly-coloured creatures out of old hosiery.

After sending 12 of her sock monsters to the children of her friends, Ms Knowles decided to turn the idea into an enterprise.

She created a business page on Facebook in November last year, which helped spread the word of her company, before starting her own website that has attracted orders from around the world.

"I'm delighted with the way people have taken to Sock Monsters," she told the newspaper.

In the Huffington Post recently, sock puppet artist Katherine Dunn talked about chatting with the toys as a way of getting a new perspective on her paintings.

Chloe Madeley gets saucy in faux suspender tights

Chloe Madeley gets saucy in faux suspender tights
Dancing on Ice star and daughter of Richard and Judy Chloe Madeley has been seen out and about recently wearing a racy pair of suspender tights.

The 23-year-old, who this Sunday will compete in the finals of the show, was snapped by the Daily Mail in a black dress and faux stockings, also known as trompe l'oeil tights.

She's not the only one who has been spotted wearing the risque hosiery: Charlotte Church, Princess Beatrice, Frankie Sandford and Pixie Lott have all worn them in the past.

Speaking to the newspaper, she said her training for Dancing on Ice has completely transformed her figure, adding: "I have serious muscle mass now - it's disgusting ... But my bum and my tummy have toned up, which is awesome."

It is also not the only time Chloe has shown her saucy side, after posing for an al fresco bikini photoshoot in February.

Spring is here, but don't ditch the tights just yet

Spring is here, but don't ditch the tights just yet
Spring has finally arrived and many ladies will be looking to update their wardrobes for the sunnier weather, but one fashion blogger warns not to get rid of the fashion tights just yet.

Muireann Carey-Campbell, author of Bangs and a Bun, said the warmer weather allows ladies to ditch the trousers and go for shift dresses instead, which are easy to dress up and down.

"Team them with a cardigan and some chunky accessories so when the cardigan comes off, you're ready for after work drinks," she said.

"It is still not quite warm enough to go tightless though, so a nude/sheer stocking is always a must in spring."

The December issue of Vogue advised fashion-conscious ladies that the spring/summer catwalks were a "riot of colour", where sumptuous jewel tones and bold clashing blocks were seen in abundance.

Rock socks and skirts this spring

Rock socks and skirts this spring
Spring is the time to show off your leg wear, and one fashion writer has mused on how to use a funky pair of socks to your best advantage.

In the Philadelphia Enquirer, Elizabeth Wellington said while longer skirts are coming in, there is still a place for shorter ones, with socks replacing opaque tights.

"And the socks don't even have to reach your knee," she continued, adding that she is looking forward to wearing a pair of bold pink socks with a black shift on the first warm day of spring.

"Anklets are acceptable, even encouraged. Wear them with pumps and even open-toed shoes."

However, ladies might want to avoid the fashion faux paux committed by Jessica Alba recently, who was spotted pairing pink socks with jeans and a pair of brightly-coloured open-toed sandals.

Bright Socks Day raises cash for hospice

Bright Socks Day raises cash for hospice
A school in north Northumberland has been raising funds for a hospice with a charity event that commemorated a beloved teacher known for her love of novelty socks.

Val Richards, who passed away to cancer this year, worked at James Calvert Spence College for 20 years and is remembered for the brightly-coloured socks she wore to school, the Northumberland Gazette reports.

To celebrate her life and service to the school, pupils and staff took part in a Bright Socks Day, paying 50p for the privilege of sporting colourful legwear.

They raised £200 for St Oswald's Hospice, which cared for Ms Richards in the last stages of her illness.

Meanwhile, Fox 59 reports that residents of Indiana went barefoot for a day earlier this month to raise awareness of children around the world who are without shoes or socks.

Shoeless ministers raise eyebrows at Number 10

Shoeless ministers raise eyebrows at Number 10
Politicians are usually known for dressing impeccably when in the public eye, which makes it all the more unusual that David Cameron's aide Steve Hilton has been walking around Number Ten with no shoes and just socks.

The prime minister's director of strategy recently greeted dignitaries at a reception in jeans, a white T-shirt and socks.

And the trend appears to be spreading through the cabinet: Andrew Mitchell, the secretary of state for international development, recently left his shoes at home while meeting the charity Action Against Aids.

"It was one thing when we were in opposition for Steve to float about the Commons in his bare feet but doing that in Downing Street is another matter," huffed one MP to the Daily Telegraph.

However, Mr Mitchell defended himself with a snappy: "Better shoeless than clueless."

It is possible they are taking inspiration from Mad Men's Bertram Cooper, the eccentric executive noted for his fondness for going shoeless in the office.

Black tights and light shoes: the next big thing?

Black tights and light shoes: the next big thing?
Dark leg wear and lighter shoes could be the next big thing in fashion, according to one commentator.

Writing for Newsi.es, Erica Stewart said Paris Hilton recently set the tone by appearing in black tights and silver shoes, and "she looked gorgeous in setting the latest fashion trend".

"If you are fashion conscious then don't hold back too long, get yourself long sleek black tights and wear them with any lighter coloured shoes that matches your extravagant outfit," she said.

The look isn't just for youngsters, either: Ms Stewart believes the ensemble works equally well for women of all ages.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Elizabeth Wellington recently suggested that spring is the time to rock your funky socks, suggesting pairing anklets with shorter skirts and pumps.

Wear colourful men's socks under sober business wear

Wear colourful men's socks under sober business wear
Men like to look their best in the workplace, and sometimes it's the little details such as what they are wearing on their feet that can make all the difference.

Writing for business website WCW Insight, Andrew Scharf said men's socks for workwear should "on no account" be short, and ideally should come up over the calf and be in "fil d'Ecosse" or merino wool.

However, this stern guidance was tempered with the indulgent suggestion: "Since most men are soberly dressed, a flash of colour in the sock is permissible.

"It will set you apart, and guarantee to give you an inner smile."

In another article for WCW Insight, Mr Scharf wrote approvingly of a man he saw in Paris with "phone box red" socks paired with brown brogues, 5012 Levis and and a tweed coat.

The star appeared to be going for a Kate Moss look, pulling her usual bob into a high ponytail at a gig for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

Never shy of pushing the envelope when it comes to fashion, Miss J combined her funky tights with a pair of peep-toe gold heels and large black pants with a mesh top.

The Do It Like a Dude singer is reportedly turning her attentions to the theatre, revealing to the News of the World that she is in talks to write a stage musical based on her recent album.

Get a pair of versatile leggings for spring

Get a pair of versatile leggings for spring
Choosing the right leg wear can be an extremely cost-effective decision when updating your wardrobe, one journalist has said, as a good pair of leggings can work with many different outfits.

Speaking to the Baylor Lariat, California boutique owner Alicia Shaffer said black leggings are among the seven items no woman can afford to be without in the springtime.

"No one item is as versatile as a cotton-lycra blend of leggings in black," she told the newspaper.

"They are comfortable, flattering, affordable, and break up the week for those of us who live in jeans."

Another item on the list is the tunic jersey dress, which can be worn with a woven belt and gladiator sandals or over a pair of leggings for a more "bohemian look".

Suckerpunch star Emma Roberts recently gave leggings a rock 'n' roll edge at the film's premiere in Los Angeles, pairing them with a leather jacket and heels.

Kiera Knightley works the vintage look with tights and brogues
The vintage look is undergoing a revival, helped along by stars such as Kiera Knightly, and according to one source a good quality pair of tights is a centrepiece to the style.

Entertainmentwise.com said the Atonement star was recently spotted coming out of a performance of The Children's Hour in a corduroy skirt, black tights and old-fashioned brown brogues.

The shoes in particular are "so wearable and will look fab with ankle socks this summer", said the website.

Meanwhile, fashion student Sarah Kellaghan recently showed her own interpretation of the vintage trend to the Irish Independent, with an acid-yellow swing coat paired with white polka-dot tights and Converse shoes.

"I love how you can always put your own stamp on any item and also the quality of vintage fashion," she told the newspaper.ADNFCR-1412-ID-800482768-ADNFCR
