A hurdle champion from Tampa Bay, Florida has stood out from the crowd in more ways than one, after wearing eye-catching rainbow-striped socks
with black cheetah prints to an event when he managed to beat his personal best time.
Rayshawn Jenkins attended the second annual University of South Florida/Steinbrenner Invitation in hosiery
that suggested he meant business, before going on to win the 100-metre hurdle event in 14.47 seconds, the St Petersburg Times reports.
"They make fun of me [for the socks]," he told the newspaper after the event.
"But I can back it up."
The invitational attracted some 2,000 competitors in all and had an on-track temperature of a scorching 102 degrees F at its hottest.
Marathon Mama recently emphasised the importance of having high-quality sports socks
