With her unconventional dress sense and penchant for knee-length footwear, Bethanie Mattek-Sands has been called tennis' answer to Lady Gaga.
The 25-year-old, who is currently the highest-ranked American player in the BNP Paribas Open field, is well-known for sporting knee-high socks
during a match and often surprises her opponents with more outlandish ensembles, the Desert Sun reports.
"I don't know if I have the balls to wear a meat dress, but I like Lady Gaga's creativity," she told the newspaper.
"I'm not there yet, it's but something to strive for."
At the 2006 Wimbledon tournament, for instance, she wore knee-high socks
with short shorts, a tank top and chandelier earrings, and the novelty socks
are now housed in the Wimbledon museum.
Recently, Spanish ace Rafael Nadal set ladies' pulses racing by baring almost all in a fashion shoot for Emporio Armani.
