A group of tree stumps near Eastlake High School in Sammamish, US have been decorated in an unusual way - with huge knitted "tree socks".
Local arts and culture agency 4Culture has agreed to provide $3,000 (£1,800) for the colourful adornments, which fit completely over the bare trunks and have been met with approval by local residents, the Sammamish Review reports.
Artists spent hours unravelling old afghans to make the blue and white socks.
"Public art is there to make people ask questions and elicit different responses from people," said arts commissioner Barbara Jirsa.
"There's been a lot of feedback and that's been a great thing."
Recently, the Manila Standard reported that wine lovers have found another great use for socks, using them as bottle coverings during blind tastings.
