Men like to look their best in the workplace, and sometimes it's the little details such as what they are wearing on their feet that can make all the difference.
Writing for business website WCW Insight, Andrew Scharf said men's socks
for workwear should "on no account" be short, and ideally should come up over the calf and be in "fil d'Ecosse" or merino wool.
However, this stern guidance was tempered with the indulgent suggestion: "Since most men are soberly dressed, a flash of colour in the sock is permissible.
"It will set you apart, and guarantee to give you an inner smile."
In another article for WCW Insight, Mr Scharf wrote approvingly of a man he saw in Paris with "phone box red" socks paired with brown brogues, 5012 Levis and and a tweed coat.
