Wacky socks for Downs Syndrome Day

Whether they are bright, wacky, jazzy or just plain barmy, the Eastbourne and District division of Mencap is encouraging people to pull on a fun pair of socks and donate £1 towards World Downs Syndrome Day on March 21.

"They can be brightly coloured, mismatched, long socks, printed socks - just as long as they are on display and people ask about them and a donation made to help those locally with the disability," Paul Durrant from Eastbourne Mencap said.

The local group hopes to raise £1,000 for World Downs Syndrome Day in order to support local people with Downs Syndrome by putting on special activities and workshops in their residential and day centres.

Although it was only officially adopted by the United Nations in 2011, World Downs Syndrome Day is entering its eighth year and has helped to spread awareness about Downs Syndrome across the globe.

So pull your socks up and give a pound to help raise funds for a good cause.
