Zooey opts for indie chic look

The ever-stylish 33-year-old sported a waist-high striped beige, black and green skirt, combined with a black crop top, and black court shoes, to the event at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre, in Hollywood.

She also donned her trademark black tights to complete the quirky ensemble.

Deschanel was joined on the red carpet by New Girl co-stars Hannah Simone, Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson and Lamorne Morris at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The smash-hit sitcom is approaching the end of its second series in the US however UK viewers can catch up with the gang's latest antics on E4.

American singer/songwriter Taylor Swift is rumoured to guest star in the final episode of the series, which also features a guest appearance from When Harry Met Sally director, Rob Reiner.

Bailey oozes class at Vogue event

Bailey oozes class at Vogue event

Model Laura Bailey oozed class at a dinner in honour of designer Michael Kors, at the Cafe Royal, in central London, last week.

The 40-year-old looked effortlessly elegant as always, with a white sequined shift dress combined with a chunky, white wristwatch and offset by dark black tights, black boots and a black clutch bag.

Bailey, who is a contributing editor to the British edition of Vogue magazine, recently launched a summer collection in collaboration with the handbag designer, Radley.

The event hosted by Vogue editor, Alexandra Shulman, featured an intimate selection of guests that included models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and David Gandy, as well as Les Misérables actress Samantha Barks.

Kors used the dinner to unveil his spring/summer 2013 collection, which features a wide range of bright stripes and colourful pieces.

The event also celebrated the cause of the World Food Programme, with Kors donating 100 meals to the organisation on behalf of each of the event's guests.

Dakota goes bold at Star Trek debut

Dakota goes bold at Star Trek debut

Dakota Blue Richards appeared in a quirky outfit at the UK premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness on Thursday evening.

The 19-year-old actress combined a simple black dress and an elegant pair of black heels with an eye-catching Sorapol jacket.

The look was finished off with some sheer black tights, which added an edge to the outfit and were a nice change from the black opaques which most celebs have been modelling recently.

She wore her hair in loose waves and sported bright red lipstick.

London-based Sorapol is a relatively new enterprise, but has already managed to persuade Kate Nash and Azealia Banks to model its outlandish designs.

Richards' phoenix design certainly turned heads at the premiere, which also featured appearances from Star Trek cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg and Zachary Quinto.

Despite not appearing in the Star Trek movie, Richards will be back on our screens soon, when she appears in John Jencks' first feature length film, The Fold, which is to be released later this year.

Madonna rocks New York punk vibe

Madonna rocks New York punk vibe

Madonna continued to shock and surprise as the pop star turned all punk at the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's charity gala in New York on Monday.

Thoroughly embracing the launch of the exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture, the 54-year-old opted to take a full on approach to punk style with a studded blue tartan jacket, with a fishnet under layer, and leather gloves, adding to her jet black haircut.

She complemented the outfit with a pair of fishnet tights, doubled up with black stockings, pink shoes, plenty of chains, and a bulky 'dog collar' necklace complete with padlock.

Her outfit may be more designer chic than DIY Sid Vicious, but in a way that's what the whole event is about, with organisers trying to create a link between the homemade outfits of the punk era with high end fashion.

However, punk icons John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, from the Sex Pistols and Paul Simonon from the Clash stayed away from event, saying that organisers had "missed the point" of the rebellious 1970s subculture.

Punked up Ricci rocks New York

Punked up Ricci rocks New York

Christina Ricci mixed glamour with a punk style at the 'Punk: Chaos to Couture' Benefit Gala at the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York on Monday.

The 33-year-old actress combined a long light blue, red and black tartan patterned dress with black heels and a pair of fishnet tights to truly capture that punk style.

She may not have pulled off as shocking an outfit as other guests, such as Madonna, but the Monster star certainly did her best to embrace the theme of the event.

The evening marked the opening of a new exhibition in the famous New York museum's fashion institute that celebrates punk's influence on the high fashion industry.

However, critics said that the exhibition and the gala evening went against the spirit of the punk movement.

All we know is that we loved the fishnets and stockings that the more rebellious celebs donned.

Rogue Té Qhario flashes socks

Rogue Té Qhario flashes socks

Among the glitz and the glamour of the Fast and the Furious 6 premiere in London on Tuesday night, British pop act, the Loveable Rogues opted for a dressed down look.

In place of dinner jackets and bow ties, the boys went for jeans, casual shirts and trainers. Té Qhario even decided to show his chilled out side by flashing his socks to the world, along with a backturned baseball cap.

The boys were joined on the specially made blue carpet by a whole host of star names from the sixth edition of the long running franchise, with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Paul Walker all snapped outside the Empire cinema in Leicester Square.

Local lad Jason Statham was missing from the line-up on Tuesday night, but the actor has already confirmed that he will return for Fast and the Furious 7, which is expected to be released next year.

Biel dazzles in webbed tights

Biel dazzles in webbed tights

Jessica Biel joined a host of celebrities swapping the traditional red carpet garb for some punk inspired designs at the Punk: 'Chaos to couture' Benefit Gala on Monday.

Biel opted for a long, elegant, black, meshed Giambattista Valli dress, which she punked up with some webbed black tights.

The actress was also spotted sporting a false septum piercing at the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art event in New York.

The gala event marked the start of an exhibition to celebrate punk fashion's influence on high couture.

The 31-year-old's attempt at combining the two contrasting styles was certainly more elegant than some other guests, notably Madonna's quirky 'shock and awe' approach.

Despite this some punk icons turned down an invitation to the event, saying that the high fashion adoption of punk went against the basic principals of the 1970s subculture.

Biel recently appeared at the London premiere for her latest film, the indie thriller Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes.

Tina's Shameless night in stockings

Tina's Shameless night in stockings

If her outfit for the British Academy Television Awards (BAFTAs) on Sunday night is anything to go by then Tina Malone's long-running appearance in the hit Channel 4 drama Shameless is rather apt.

The 50-year-old actress certainly had no qualms about pulling on a daring pair of stocking-style tights for the star-studded event at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The Liverpool actress added a pair of black flats, a baggy black dress, a black leather jacket and a healthy dollop of red lipstick to finish the ensemble and tied back her brown locks in a ponytail.

Sadly, while we loved her on-trend legwear, the Liverpool actress looked more set for a night down the Jockey than one of television's glitziest evenings.

Malone, who was part of the Shameless cast, nominated for best soap or continuing drama did not pick up a shiny golden BAFTA to go with her outfit, with the award going to EastEnders instead.

Classic Deschanel at FOX Upfront do

Classic Deschanel at FOX Upfront do

The seamlessly elegant Zooey Deschanel was spotted at the FOX Network 2013 Upfront party in New York on Monday night, as the network celebrated some of its highlights for the 2013-14 season.

Deschanel maintained her trademark 'indie chic' style with a white blouse underneath a sparkly black jacket, combined with a plain, knee-length skirt and a pair of black and white two-tone flats. Perhaps she was channelling New Girl character Jess Day's aversion to high heels.

As we have come to know and love, Deschanel topped her outfit off with a pair of dark tights. After all how would we recognise her without them?

And Zooey's fans will have been pleased to see that her trademark fringe was back. The actress was barely recognisable at the Met Ball earlier this month when she swept her thick fringe to one side as part of her elegant up do.

The FOX presentation also marked the unveiling of the network's adaptation of the hit BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey.

Jill dresses up for Gatsby ballet

Jill dresses up for Gatsby ballet

Jill Halfpenny braved the wet weather and pulled on her tights for a performance of The Great Gatsby by the Northern Ballet company at Sadler's Wells theatre in London on Tuesday night.

With summer seemingly over before it really started, the former EastEnders and Waterloo Road actress combined a big woolly, grey cardigan with a round neck black dress decorated with white lightening bolts and a pair of dark black tights topped off with some low cut boots.

With Baz Lurhmann's screen adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel hitting the cinemas this week, other celebs, such as Sir Ben Kingsley, Darcey Bussell and Les Misérables star Eddie Redmayne decided to ditch the silver screen in favour of the stage and turned out to watch the ballet.

Having already been remade as an opera and a musical, David Nixon's adaptation of the 1920s Jazz Age novel marks the first time that the story of Jay Gatsby has been performed as a ballet.

The two-month tour of The Great Gatsby ends on Friday night at the Sadler's Wells theatre, having already taken in stints in Leeds, Sheffield and Edinburgh.

Tights and scarf for Syal at BAFTAs

Meera Syal pulled on an elegant outfit as she posed alongside husband Sanjeev Bhaskar at the BAFTA television awards on Sunday night.

The actress and writer wore a plain black dress, with a long black cardigan to guard against the spring chill. The cool weather also encouraged Syal to opt for a pair of dark tights and a grey scarf that she stylishly draped around her neck.

She topped it all off with a chic long necklace, a silver handbag and a matching pair of sparkling silver shoes.

Syal and Bhaskar will shortly return to screens as part of a revamp of their hit chat show The Kumars at Number 42.

Hugh Jackman and Zoe Wanamaker have already been confirmed to make appearances on the show when the new series launches on Sky 1 later this year.

Chloe Chaidez' tights are purr-fect

Chloe Chaidez' tights are purr-fect

Kitten's Chloe Chaidez rocked the punk look as the band supported Paramore at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on Thursday night.

The teenage singer combined a mesh black top with some flame-patterned hot pants combined with a punky dog-collar necklace.

She topped it all off with a pair of torn fishnet tights and surprisingly decided to perform without shoes, showing off those tights in all their glory.

Still a work in progress, the California band could be set to rival Paramore in the future, with their catchy sound and iconic front woman.

Paramore, who are promoting their self-titled fourth studio album, are marking their first world tour since Josh and Zac Farro left the band in 2010.

Since then, the band, and in particular lead singer Hayley Williams, have revamped their image, with Williams channelling elements of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs singer Karen Oh, through some elaborate stage makeup and colourful leggings.

Black and yellow look for Zoe Henry

Actress Zoe Henry appeared alongside husband and fellow Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley at the British Soap Awards at Media City in Salford on Saturday night in a rather striking outfit.

Henry opted for a two-tone lemon and yellow high-neckline dress, teamed with a chunky pair of black high-heels and topped off with a pair of black tights.

She wore her hair in a relaxed bun and added even more colour to the already bright outfit with some blue nail varnish. In contrast, Jeff wore a simple dark suit with a grey shirt and black tie.

Despite not being nominated herself, Henry, who plays Rhona Goskirk on the long running series, was there to support her castmates, who were nervously waiting to see if their name would be called.

Coronation Street ended up the big winners on the night, scooping eight of the 16 awards up for grabs, including best soap.

However Henry and her fellow Emmerdale co-stars were able to end the night with their own celebrations after picking up the gong for best single episode, with the soap's live 40th anniversary special.

Actress Olivia Hallinan sported some fetching spotted legwear at the opening night of LIMBO at the London Wonderground on Monday night.

Her red locks flowed loose over her shoulders and she kept her makeup minimal apart from some bright red lipstick.

Hallinan, who also featured in the Channel 4 pilot for the World War One sitcom Chickens, has not announced whether or not she will be reprising her role as Gwyneth, when the series moves to Sky later this summer.

Hallinan was joined on the red carpet for the star studded opening night by a number of other top named celebrities, including close friend Chloe Madeley, who opted to ditch the tights and bare her legs.

Socks cheer up young cancer patient

Socks cheer up young cancer patient

Pupils at a primary school in the US have delivered 300 silly socks to a classmate suffering from liver cancer.

Chance Storz, who has not been able to attend Moody Elementary school in White Hall, Arkansas, since the start of March, received the surprise gift at Arkansas Children's Hospital on Monday.

"Chance's chemotherapy causes nerve damage. That's one of the things they recommend is to keep socks on your feet and keep them good and warm, and it helps with some of the nerve pain," Chance's mother, Billie Storz, told local news provider THV11.

She added that with all the snazzy socks, Chance would be able to keep his feet warm for a very long time.

This act of kindness may inspire others in the UK to follow the lead of pupils in the US and make some silly socks to help cheer up local children who are hospitalised.
