5 Seconds of Summer have socks appeal

For decades, pop fans have been throwing various garments at their stage idols to signal their devotion.

Now an Australian boyband's devotees are carrying on this tradition with a difference - lobbing their socks at them.

Zurich was the latest venue for 5 Seconds of Summer's (5SOS) four-piece to get bombarded with footwear on stage. Performing their smash hit She Looks So Perfect, the crowd joined in with the spirit of the tour's Rock Out With Your Socks Out title.

The 5SOS faithful proved accurate with their aim. One fan hit Michael Clifford with a Santa's Christmas sock square in the head.

The Sydney quartet have made it huge since forming four years ago.

Clifford, lead vocalist Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood have won a huge international following, especially among teenage girls.

They really erupted onto the worldwide scene when they supported One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour. Since then the takings have been flowing in from both concert and album sales.

And, if Zurich is anything to go by, it looks as if the lads won't have to buy any new socks for Christmas.
