Socks: a dog's favourite non-food snack
Pet dogs are not only partial to the mainstaples of bones and meaty chunks for sustenance, a recent poll reveals.

Hillary Richard of the New York Local Travel Examiner says that hosiery heads the hit list of extracurricular food for dogs when their owners are busy elsewhere, with socks and tights in the top ten tasty treats for a person's pooch, according to the survey by West Chelsea Veterinary.

Ms Richard continues: "The top inedible pick for dogs? Socks. Yes, that's right - the socks dirty enough to be relegated to the laundry hamper are Fido's favourite."

Other preferred provisions for dogs include underwear, rocks, hair ties, sticks and balls.

It was revealed recently that a dog owner was awarded the Hambone Award for unusual claim of the month by Veterinary Pet Insurance after her dog ate her bra.
