Perez Hilton dons outlandish attire to mimic Lady Gaga

Perez Hilton dons outlandish attire to mimic Lady Gaga
Many people will likely have done a double take when they saw Lady Gaga walking up the carpet to Heidi Klum's Halloween party last weekend.

That's because it was none other than Perez Hilton, celebrity blogger and sharp-tongued cultural commentator, whose website gets millions of hits a month for its celebrity tracking.

Wearing a blonde wig shaped partly into a bow as well as donning the singer's famous sharp mirrored outfit from several stage performances over the last year, Perez even slapped on a pair of white tights covered by black fishnet stockings.

Meanwhile, hostess Heidi Klum and her husband Seal both arrived at the get-together dressed as a pair of ravens.

Lady Gaga continues to pose in a variety of wacky ways, with the singer recently wearing oversized bows and stuffed toys as part of a Hello Kitty shoot.

Christmas party? Use these tips for quick-dress success

Christmas party? Use these tips for quick-dress success
Many women will be looking for a way to prepare themselves for a Christmas party in the next couple of months, as quick action is definitely needed in certain situations.

Never fear, ladies - Kirsty Jewson, a beauty mogul from Saks, has given some quick tips that may simply transcend putting on Christmas socks or sexy stockings.

She asserted that make-up was important, and commented: "Use a sheer highlighter across the cheekbones and brow bones to immediately open up the eyes and give more definition to cheekbones.

"To give an overall glamorous feel quickly stick on some false eyelashes to intensify the eyes and finish with an application of lip gloss."

Ms Jewson added that to lessen the impact of a night out on the looks, women need to ensure they spend the evening of the party with a glass of water in between every alcoholic drink, which should help hydrate the body and lessen the pain of having to get up the next day.

Last month, Phil Orford, chief executive of the Forum of Private Business, said that staff Christmas parties are important as they recognise and appreciate workers.

Lady Gaga goes all-out attack in strange style stakes

Lady Gaga goes all-out attack in strange style stakes
Many people will think that Lady Gaga will have to sack her stylist after her most recent appearance at a public event, with the singer wearing an unclassifiable piece of headwear.

Granted, the reason Lady Gaga was at the Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards in New York was because she was claiming one herself, though she may have gone a little far in demonstrating why she had won an award by wearing a strange black lace sheath over her face and hair.

The singer wore a black shirt with a pink bra over the top of it, while donning control pants over a pair of fishnet stockings - the final one being the only thing that she could seemingly get away with.

And to top it off, she covered herself in white dust, despite Halloween passing by around three days ago.

At Heidi Klum's recent Halloween bash, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton donned clothes to pull off a remarkable transformation into Lady Gaga.

Katie Price's new beau dons stockings in scary outfit for Halloween

Katie Price's new beau dons stockings in scary outfit for Halloween
Ever since it became news that Alex Reid had been known to cross-dress in the past, it now seems like he simply can't stop himself from doing it, taking his wife's mantle of becoming the feast of photographers.

The muscular cage fighter attended a Halloween bash with girlfriend Katie Price and wore a tiny bra and g-string covered with little more than a fishnet smock, knee-high boots, stockings and a tiny hat, strategically placing his Silk Cut cigarettes under the chest apparel.

In addition to his flagrant use of legwear, the still scary-looking Alex decided to stick a load of make-up on his face, wearing blood red lipstick, eyeliner and foundation.

His girlfriend fared no better, with Katie Price wearing red leopard-print PVC stockings and matching mask, whip, gloves and underwear alongside a black corset.

In related cage-fighting cross-dressing news, Daniel 'Lion Heart' Lerwell and James 'Lights Out' Lilley recently successfully defended themselves against hapless yobs in Swansea city centre on a night out after the drunks unwittingly picked a fight with them.

Leggings are 'great for layering'

Leggings are 'great for layering'
Colder weather means only one thing: time to fully reconsider style options for fashionistas across the northern hemisphere, according to an expert.

Roni Proter, the fashion reporter for US TV channel The CW, spoke to celebrity stylist Mariel Haenn, the force behind Rihanna, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

She recommended the use of shoulder pads, which make a woman's frame look more feminine as it brings a person in at their waist more, though it's all about pairing it with leggings for the "ultimate trendy look".

Ms Haenn continued: "Leggings could pair with another one of my trends which is the cozy knit. And a lot of times this is stuff you'll see Rihanna wearing through the airport, or going out to eat."

While all these new trends can overwhelm many, the style expert asserted that people must "keep it simple yet playful".

The CW is a leading fashion resource for TV lovers in the US, showing Gossip Girl and America's Next Top Model as two of its flagship programmes.

Buy socks, get face in Times Square

Buy socks, get face in Times Square
People wanting their 15 minutes, or seconds, of fame ought to get themselves over to the US - after all, they're going to at least need to buy a pair of socks in a leading American store.

This week, American Eagle announced that people who shop at the soon-to-open flagship store in Times Square could have their image on a 25-storey electronic billboard above its entrance at one of the world's busiest intersections.

Anyone buying something in the shop from November 19th will have their photo, alongside their own message, posted on the electronic billboard within 15 minutes of their purchase - something which will likely have people going for the cheapest options, namely socks, tights and leggings.

Commenting on the strategy, Tim Tompkins, the president of Times Square Alliance which represents businesses in the area, said: "Narcissism knows no bounds in Times Square. I suspect this will become part of the Times Square experience."

Yesterday, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was announced to follow a different route this year, though it will continue to run along Times Square but avoid Broadway.

NFL gives player $5,000 fine... for socks violation

NFL gives player $5,000 fine... for socks violation
One of the more controversial figures in the world of American football has been handed a fine this week - for not showing enough white on his socks during a game for his team, the Miami Dolphins.

The National Football League (NFL) handed Joey Porter a $5,000 (£3,000) fine for violating a particularly strange rule: putting a white strip of about three inches on his socks just above his cleats.

However, Porter - not one to be particularly quiet about any issues he has with superiors, teammates or the press - said he didn't receive a warning during the game, appealing the fine on these grounds.

He said: "You've got to tell me so I can fix it. You can't just fine me. You've got to give me a fix-it ticket. Even the police give you a fix-in ticket."

A recent Sports Illustrated poll named Joey Porter second in a list of the dirtiest players in the league, tied with Albert Haynesworth of the Washington Redskins but behind former teammate from the Pittsburgh Steelers Hines Ward.

Christmas style 'must remain individualistic'

Christmas style 'must remain individualistic'
Women wondering where to go with their style this season have been offered some tips from a leading stylist.

Nicky Hambleton-Jones, the South African-born fashion and beauty expert regularly gracing TVs and newspapers across the land, said the most important thing to buy this Christmas is something you really love because it will be worn irrespective of fashion, and individual style is the 'in thing'.

In regards to Christmas parties, sequins are "huge" but only if they are matt and not silver or gold, which are a little bit more "in your face".

For those wondering how to colour their Christmas socks, leggings or other festive hosiery and other items, Nicky recommended blues and blacks as they are more muted and more wearable when the holiday ends and fashionistas go into spring and summer, as they can be paired with jeans or a t-shirt.

She concluded: "The most important thing is not to focus on trends but to invest in a trend that you actually love because that is going to make you want to wear them and create your own individual style."

Nicky Hambleton-Jones made her name from five years as presenter of Ten Years Younger, one of the UK's leading makeover shows.

Mel B goes step too far with short dress

Mel B goes step too far with short dress
A former Spice Girl caused a stir at a recent movie premiere this week, wearing a remarkably short dress when parading down the red carpet for her husband's new film.

Melanie Brown, better known to millions as Mel B, attended a star-studded entrance to the AFI Festival screening of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans with her partner Stephen Belafonte, who worked as a producer on the release.

And even though the likes of Eva Mendes and Charlize Theron were gracing the red velvet walkway into Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Mel B still managed to steal the headlines, though only due to the seemingly bottomless dress she was wearing.

Luckily, she was able to maintain a little decorum, but hardly any warmth, by using sexy hosiery to her advantage by pairing fishnet tights with the look.

Earlier this month, Mel B starred alongside Keith Allen, Trinny Woodhall and Austin Healey on ITV1 show 7 Days on the Breadline, where she learned how a family survived on benefits provided to them by the state.

Looking glamorous is 'all about feeling good about yourself'

Looking glamorous is 'all about feeling good about yourself'
Regardless of the current economic climate, women should always go that little bit further when injecting glamour into their outfit, according to a style guru.

Nicky Hambleton-Jones was still quick to underline just how much women need to go that little bit further in the current economic climate, given the austerity and cold weather associated with this period of the year.

She continued: "You don't have to go over the top and [do] black tie glamour but I think it is more about something sparkly or putting on an extra accessory with your outfit, or a splash of colour or something that is going to make you feel a little bit more sexy."

Women should always concern themselves with looking a tad more feminine, even if it is simply to remind them that they are attractive people, Ms Hambleton-Jones added.

For those looking for Christmas socks or leggings, she asserted that getting into bright red hues, as well as scarlet, pink and gold which she branded "the colours of the season".

Nicky Hambleton-Jones made her name on 10 Years Younger, though was later replaced by Myleene Klass, despite her successor only being seven years younger.

Janine Butcher gives Corrie a run for its hosiery money

Janine Butcher gives Corrie a run for its hosiery money
It seems like the war between flagship soaps is continuing in the UK, with Eastenders looking to step up its game in a saucy way to win over passing fans looking for more raciness in their teatime action.

Janine Butcher, the notorious character played by Charlie Brooks, is to don stockings and suspenders as a way of winning over her flatmate Ryan Malloy, with the actress giving her on-screen partner a surprise as she walks in with a black anorak.

However, underneath it all is a red corset to match the sassy hosiery and black knee-high boots.

Commenting on her role, 28-year-old Charlie said: "They told me to expect Janine to be naughtier than ever and she really doesn't disappoint. The stuff with Ryan has been great to act. I love that she uses her sexuality to wrap him round her little finger."

Many will see the scene as a stunt to counteract the appearance of Helen Flanagan in her role of Rosie Webster in Coronation Street, with the young actress wearing suspenders and stockings along with black lingerie to impress on-screen bad guy Tony Gordon.

Ripped tights and stockings provide 'great look'

Ripped tights and stockings provide 'great look'
A more rough-and-ready approach to hosiery may be what's called for if women want to do adopt a cool new style, it is said.

Writing for Indian national newspaper the Hindu, style lover Neeti Sarkar explained that women wanting to give their outfit a little bit of an extra edge may find it best to give their stockings and tights a little bit of destructive attention.

She noted that on a night out, laddered stockings are not a rare sight and many girls are even doubling up by wearing knee-high socks over the top of them, providing both style and warmth in the colder months.

Ms Sarkar added: "For a more casual look, you could team your shredded tights with a mini skirt and ankle length leather boots.

"Denim skirts are what many teeny boppers pair their black stockings with. However, you could even go in for a black mini and get yourself bling boots to complete the look."

In a recent campaign for Topshop, Kate Moss donned laddered tights as part of her modelling of the new range.

Socks and shoes halt fully-naked rollercoaster ride

Socks and shoes halt fully-naked rollercoaster ride
It's not often that a man will see a greeting card with himself on, naked, riding a rollercoaster. Luckily or unluckily for one man, that very thing happened.

Michael Deacon told the Daily Telegraph of his experience as a junior reporter for Zoo magazine, with the editors asking the young writer to take part in a record attempt of the most naked people on a rollercoaster, choosing the Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe Park.

He was joined by similarly naked "Zoo-friendly" female students, or as he refers to them, the "most pneumatically built" beauties the publication could find.

However, they weren't fully naked - health and safety required them to wear legwear, namely socks and shoes.

Mr Deacon continued: "If there's a vision less attractive than a pasty Scotsman naked, it's a pasty Scotsman naked except for his shoes and socks."

An investment in socks will get your face on Times Square, it was revealed earlier this month, after American Eagle announced that its flagship store in New York City would be showing the faces of all its customers on its 25-storey high billboard.

Men's underwear 'only bought by men for 17 years'

Men's underwear 'only bought by men for 17 years'
Men's underwear is only bought by blokes themselves for 17 years of their life, until they get sick of it and delegate it to others, it has been said.

The survey, conducted by Debenhams, discovered that gents relied on their mothers to buy men's underwear throughout their younger years before becoming more independent later in life, deciding to invest in themselves between the ages of 19 and 36.

However, it's after this point when indifference sets in, following a lifetime of neglect as men seemingly go out of their way to rely on women once more to buy their kegs.

Rob Faucherand, Debenhams head of men's accessories, said: "This is the one issue that feminism has never addressed. It's not who wears the pants in each household - it's who has to buy them that counts."

In other men's underwear news, Cristiano Ronaldo is now the face of Emporio Armani boxers, taking the mantle from fellow footballer David Beckham.

Flat derriere? No worries, gents - men's underwear will save you

Flat derriere? No worries, gents - men's underwear will save you
Let's face it, it'll not happen in women's clothing - only in the world of men's underwear would you find a product which makes your bum look bigger than it actually is.

Yet InventorSpot has revealed the innovations put forward by Andrew Christian, who has decided that quite a few blokes aren't too happy with their unshapely derriere and aims to play to those weaknesses by creating body-contouring men's underwear.

Commenting on the development, the innovation source explained: "The underwear promises that if lifts and firms the butt to make it look a little bit rounder and firmer, adding an additional half to full inch to a flat butt."

Not that many men may buy it, of course, unless they're between the ages of 19 and 36; that is, of course, if you agree with a Debenham's survey which found that outside that age range, gentlemen don't buy their own men's underwear, delegating the task to lady friends instead.

Debenhams survey 'throws up interesting questions'

Debenhams survey 'throws up interesting questions'
One columnist is particularly unimpressed by the latest developments in the world of men's underwear as outlined by a recent piece for Debenhams, which creates more questions than answers.

The piece, which was revealed to the public earlier this week, underlined how men buy underwear for themselves for just 17 years, between the ages of 19 and 36, delegating the task before and after this time to their significant female other, whether it be their mum, wife or girlfriend.

However, Phil Daoust of the Guardian questioned a couple of situations that were not covered by the poll.

He said: "Firstly, what about men who love men? Who buys their smalls? Just as importantly, what about all the single straight blokes out there?"

Mr Daoust concluded by wondering if he is the only one who doesn't wear the same "fraying bits of cotton", patching up the holes until "Miss Right" hurries along to his aid.

Grazia: Portobello style rocks the tights look

Grazia: Portobello style rocks the tights look
One of the country's leading market streets has tooled up a girl to be particularly fashionable, with legwear being particularly instrumental in her overall look, it has been said.

Grazia noted that while many people have already packed away their denim shorts and skirts until next June, one student - Jasmine Barrowclough, a 22-year-old traipsing around London - is able to pull the look off over winter.

The fashion source explained: "We love that she cut up an old pair of jeans and threw them on with tights, vintage boots and her grey marl coat from Zara, giving them a whole new attitude.

"And as for her bag from Portobello market, well eat your heart out Alexander Wang."

Her shorts weren't quite as short as Mel B's dress last week, however, though the former Spice Girl managed to save her graces - just - with fishnet tights when accompanying her partner Stephen Belafonte to the screening of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Beyonce steps out in leggings at Whisky Mist
While Beyonce no doubt turned a lot of heads upon her entrance to Whisky Mist nightclub last night, it was likely her legwear that impressed people the most.

Deciding to head to a top nightclub, the former Destiny's Child lead singer was joined with her husband Jay-Z, heading to the bar to blow off some steam during the latest part of her UK tour, with the singer donning sequinned leggings for the appearance.

Joining them were a few other famous faces, including upcoming hip-hop star Chipmunk, JLS and actor Stephen Dorff.

It follows news that Beyonce went as far as to book two hotel rooms in her name this weekend via her entourage, when it transpired that her place at the luxury Lowry Hotel was unable to accommodate both her and her bags, meaning she had to book another for her clothes.

Denim leggings are a "must-have"

Denim leggings are a "must-have"
There are a number of fashion necessities this autumn and winter, according to a style lover.

Eva Bowen, the leading fashionista at ABC15, explained that as temperatures drop, fashion needs to match them, with a specific piece of legwear being top of the table.

She said: "The denim legging is the skinny jean revamped. With a lot more stretch, these super skinnies are uber comfortable and look fabulous tucked into your favourite pair of slouchy boots."

Pairing them with a button down long cardigan, sweater or fitted jacket will really complete the look, Ms Bowen added, making them must-have hosiery for the autumn and winter seasons.

Also using plenty of black clothing - which she described as a "wardrobe staple" - will mean that the look will always be flawlessly carried off.

Last month, a particularly embarrassing situation was revealed by singer VV Brown, with the singer splitting her leggings at Bestival and nearly giving attendees a more revealing performance.

Statement tights 'look great' on Cheryl Cole

Statement tights 'look great' on Cheryl Cole
Cheryl Cole is hitting the heights of her career and it is clear that the young fashionista is still aiming to please the paparazzi which come to see her wherever she goes.

This was definitely the case recently, as she stepped out with husband Ashley Cole for dinner wearing a funky trend that's likely to take off given it was Cheryl wearing them: statement tights.

The singer, who was attending the Children in Need fundraiser, impressed many with her cute tights, which used a relatively thick denier and had printed black dots on the back running up her leg.

However, not everyone could be impressed and Shudoo, a leading resource in footwear, explained that while the tights were beautiful, there was still a way to go with her look from the neck upwards.

The team explained: "We couldn't help but think Cheryl Cole looked a bit chav-tastic for the event with gold hoop earrings and a tightly scraped back ponytail, otherwise known as the Croydon facelift!"

Cheryl Cole's first solo album 3 Words was on the number one spot for two weeks, before being toppled by X Factor runners up JLS this week, with the band's first studio offering.

Kate Moss forgoes clothes during recent outing

Kate Moss forgoes clothes during recent outing
Kate Moss' body is one that pretty much everyone is aware of, through numerous modelling campaigns and photoshoots over the years - not to mention dozens of holiday snaps.

Yet the supermodel and leading British It girl decided to remind people of how she looked at a recent trip out to the Groucho club in Soho this week.

Emerging from the exclusive club in the early hours, Kate donned all-black clothes, including a slightly transparent shirt exposing her lack of bra, as well as a pair of opaque black tights and miniature underwear over the top, making her look a little like a superhero.

Recently, Kate Moss revealed to the WWD fashion website that while it sounds corny, inner beauty will always reflect on the outside.

Having said that, one of her other catchphrases is: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."

Printed hosiery 'needs plain accompaniment'

Printed hosiery 'needs plain accompaniment'
Fashionistas across the country will be looking for the best way to address the new season, with one leading clothing expert highlighting the key trends, particularly in the world of legwear.

Eilidh MacAskill, the editor at InStyle, explained that the sequin frock is a huge trend which is coming back, with the best offerings coming with short hemlines and long sleeves to balance the glam factor with exposure.

Women not wanting to go all-out with this approach may want to turn away from the dress and instead go for a sequinned t-shirt instead, she continued.

However, in terms of patterns, Ms MacAskill asserted: "Animal prints are reasonably strong but beware [of] looking too tacky - opt for a discrete print that fades into the background. There is also a big trend towards patterned hosiery but do make sure your dress is plain."

It follows advice from Toni Jones of the Sun, who said that super shoulders are a great option for women to slim their hips, while soft sequins hide a lady's lumps and bumps.

£250k winner proves that all you need is socks
One man has experienced a dream of a day out when heading to see Saracens take on South Africa at Wembley Stadium.

Stuart Tinner, a 24-year-old Job Centre worker from Welwyn Garden City, was chosen at random to take part in a crossbar challenge in front of the thousands of fans who turned out to see the international exhibition match at England's leading stadium.

The young fan, who plays in Welwyn RFC's fifth team as a hooker, decided to remove his shoes and go for it wearing nothing but his socks, and from 30 metres out, the man nailed the target, sending Wembley into an eruption of cheers.

Mr Tinner said of his socks-based triumph: "It's an amazing feeling and I've just won £250,000. I'm still in a daze. I really can't believe it. I'll have a good weekend first."

Saracens also won the game 24-23, which many considered to be a surprising loss for the opposing Springboks.

Layering is 'great for hosiery'

Layering is 'great for hosiery'
Women wanting to truly pull off the glitzy look of the catwalk for this season will genuinely benefit from an investment in hosiery, according to a leading fashionista.

Emma Sibbles of the Guardian explained that by putting socks at "centre stage", a lady can use stylish shock and awe tactics to impress anyone she wants.

She said: "You've bought your new-season colourful or patterned tights, but before you pull on your boots, add a thick pair of socks, wrinkle them down so they're just showing above your boots and, hey presto, you have added warmth and a catwalk look to boot."

Ms Sibbles also noted that the Marc by Marc Jacobs show earlier this season proved to be a major educational supplement for anyone trying to get the style down.

It was proof that fashion can be practical as well, she added, noting that stripy knitted tights worn under his "trademark quirky dresses" were complemented with cream knee-high argyle socks, which went under hiking boots or furry shoes.

This week, Eilidh MacAskill, the editor at InStyle, explained that printed hosiery should always have a plain accompaniment.

SockShop applauded for rumba-style tights

SockShop applauded for rumba-style tights
Fashionistas have been given a definitive style tip this month: to embrace as many prints and embellishments that are available for their legs this season, whether it is via tights, leggings or socks.

Hilary Alexander, the fashion director at the Daily Telegraph, said that Fearne Cotton, Jasmine Guinness and Diane Kruger are particular proponents of such legwear.

However, it is one source much closer to home that women may want to turn to for one pair in particular: none other than SockShop.

She explained that "SockShop's Strictly Come Dancing-inspired rumba tights in sheer black, with diamante detail on the back seams, at £5 a pair" are an absolute bargain for women hoping to make a statement any time soon.

And with styles including "tattoos, tartan, flowers, spots and dots, lace, ribbons, crystals, beading, embroidery, graphics" and the like hitting the market, Ms Alexander added that there is "no end to the prints and embellishment available" when keeping legs warm this winter.

Earlier this month, the Scotsman revealed that Glenmuir, which is part of the Ruia Group alongside SockShop, will become the European distributor for Sunderland of Scotland in January and will take over sales, marketing and distribution activities, improving annual turnover.

Tights 'must be appropriate' for different ages this season

Tights 'must be appropriate' for different ages this season
Too many women are sticking with the staple of opaque black tights this season, though they should go off fashion's beaten path and look into more wild styles, according to a recent interview in Canada.

Rychelle Tuck, the owner of Red Ribbon in Edmonton, told the Canwest News Service that a layered look is very popular with women this month, as many are donning knee-high or regular socks over tights, leggings and stockings.

Adding a tall boot or a "chunky tunic sweater" is also a great way to rock the style, though women of all ages must ensure the style of legwear they adopt is not too painful.

She explained: "I think the really, really bold, crazy prints are generally for younger people. I think some of the solids and fishnet and floral prints could definitely be for over-35s.

"I just think you have to stick with what is appropriate for your body type and age."

One woman who does not believe in being limited by age to wear hosiery is Diane von Furstenberg, who was spotted earlier this year in fishnet stockings on the front cover of Purple magazine at the age of 62.

Socks come to the aid of amputees

Socks come to the aid of amputees
Amputees who get phantom pains from removed limbs may receive a lot of help from a new form of hosiery developed north of the border.

The Edinburgh Evening News revealed that the Astley Ainslie Hospital in Morningside has seen the development of special socks which led to 90 per cent of patients reporting a reduction in pain.

Phantom pain is when a missing limb continues to cause a level of discomfort for a patient despite there being nothing present to cause it, with the issue often linked to psychological hurdles following surgery.

The so-called Relax Night Socks were trialled in the hospital's Smart Centre and were seen to be both comfortable and easy to put on.

Prosthetist Elaine McCurrach of the organisation told the newspaper: "Some of our amputees have severe phantom pain, which can have a very negative effect on their quality of life.

"We are delighted to show that this product is an effective drug-free treatment for night-time phantom pain and to be able to make it available for all suitable patients."

The NHS notes that phantom limb issues may be the result of nerve endings in the stump sending abnormal nerve impulses that the brain understands to be pain.

Women 'can't go wrong' with legwear

Women 'can't go wrong' with legwear
Women simply can't go wrong by investing in plenty of hosiery this month or at any time this season, according to a fashionista from across the Atlantic.

Jessica De Vault of the Fayetteville Observer said that pairs of leggings, tights or stockings are all great this season, so long as they are not sheer or boring legwear, or very neutral-coloured.

In the office, women need to add to their suits with opaque tights or more "flirty" patterned stockings.

She continued: "Keep in mind that fishnets and stockings with similar patterns can easily go from trendy to trampy in the workplace, so make sure your hemline is no shorter than right above the knee."

For a night out, however, women ought to show off ankle boots with an "audacious pair" of leggings from Lindsay Lohan's 6126 line of hosiery.

It was recently revealed that Lindsay Lohan will feature in a topless shoot for Purple magazine later this month.

Top tights tipped for fashionistas

Top tights tipped for fashionistas
There are so many types of hosiery on the market now that are worth an investment from fashionistas across the globe, with the Daily Telegraph outlining the loveliest legwear this season.

It noted that sheer polka-dot tights - ten denier offerings - are a fantastic yet understated investment, though people wanting to embrace their "girlie side" may want to look for more crazy patterned tights, such as those with love hearts.

The newspaper addressed the styles adopted by such people as Fearne Cotton, who is an "avid fan of eye-catching legwear", such as the textured lace-print stockings that she is regularly seen wearing at public events, adding that women ought to "steal her style".

Additionally, other women prepared to go "completely bonkers with legs in mismatching neon shades" ought to try the likes of American Apparel's two-tone orange and lime offerings, though only if they are daring enough.

Earlier this month, the Daily Telegraph's Hilary Alexander congratulated SockShop's Strictly Come Dancing-inspired rumba tights in sheer black, noting that at £5 a pair, they are a huge bargain.

Slouchy socks a 'great alternative' to tights

Slouchy socks a 'great alternative' to tights
There are two footwear trends to follow this winter, according to the former editor of Marie Claire and the current head honcho of fashion at the Daily Mail.

Liz Jones noted that women will be reaching for clogs soon, now that Vera Wang, Louis Vuitton and Chanel have jumped on the fashion train, though she asserted that high street versions will be available soon.

In regards to hosiery, however, Ms Jones continued: "The second big foot trend is going to be slouchy socks with platform shoes, as seen at Burberry Prorsum. It's a lot sexier than a pair of tights, and also a good way to avoid blisters."

Trends to avoid this season, however, include big hair, hole-filled knitwear and tracksuit bottoms, as the latter will see you putting on four stone as the drawstring helps you forget about your waist.

Liz Jones was famously sacked from her Marie Claire post for referring to a female model as a "bag of bones".
