Artist seeks lost socks for project
An artist in Seattle has pledged to give lonely foot wear a good home, as part of a project she is working on.

Susan Lenz is seeking unmatched footwear, from ski socks to bed socks, that have lost their mates in order to stitch together a unique quilt, the Seattle Times reports.

"Rules don't apply to the contemporary nature of art quilting" she told the newspaper.

"You can make an art quilt with paper, your seat cushions from your car. The idea is to express something just like any other medium of art."

The finished project, which is entitled "Looking for a Mate", is expected to be about five feet square and will be revealed at Artista Vista in Columbia in April 2011.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times reports that artist Jonnet Middleton is turning 20 years' worth of funky tights and socks into an installation for Cork's annual ArtTrail event.
