S Korea president dons thermal underwear to save on heating
South Korea's president has spoken of his individual contributions to cutting back on fuel consumption this winter.

Lee Myung-bak said he will wear thermal men's underwear during the colder weather in a bid to avoid power shortages.

"[It] was uncomfortable initially. But after a while, I got used to it, and now I am very warm and comfortable wearing it," Mr Lee said of his new undergarments.

The government has issued instructions to citizens, civil servants and businesses explaining that due to low energy reserves in winter power needs to be saved.

Cooperation has been encouraged across the country following a surge in power demand in September, which caused a massive blackout for millions of South Koreans.

Larger companies have been told to cut their power consumption by ten per cent from winter 2010 levels.
