School children wear pink socks for breast cancer awareness
American footballers are not normally associated with the colour pink, no doubt seen as a little feminine for such a hard sport.

However, that is just why some high school American footballers in Canada have stepped out in pink socks to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness month, Fermi High School's football team wore the sports socks for a match, the Hartford Courant has reported.

Meanwhile, tdn.com reports that Kelso High's team did exactly the same for a match against Fort Vancouver.

Kelso head coach Pat Hymes told the news provider: "We wanted to wear pink, but there is not much change you can make to the uniforms... so we thought why not pink socks?"

According to Breast Cancer Care, 46,000 people are diagnosed with the condition every year.
