Stockings decorated for soldiers
Soldiers serving in foreign countries over the Christmas period no doubt feel a little homesick being so far from their families.

One group of Girl Scouts in the US, however, are doing to their bit to bring a bit of yuletide cheer to US soldiers stationed abroad, the Newark Advocate reports.

Around 100 girls have been decorating stockings and Christmas cards as part of the Operation Spirit, which aims to lift troops' morale by showing appreciation for what they do.

One 12-year-old, Autumn Agnew told the news provider: "It's really fun to get to help out soldiers. It makes them happy, and I hope it puts a smile on their faces."

The news comes as the Portlander reports that the city of Vancouver in Canada is requesting people to donate clean socks to provide homeless people with warm legwear as winter sets in.
