Vancouver launches appeal for socks
A charity in the Canadian city of Vancouver is calling for donations of a clothing nature to help people living rough on the streets, it has been reported.

Share of Vancouver is calling on people to donate socks of all sorts to help the homeless, The Portlander has reported.

The Operation Sole Mates Sock Drive is aimed at providing clean ladies and mens socks to the needy to help them stave off conditions such as athlete's foot and more dangerously as winter approaches, frostbite.

"Socks are one of the least donated, yet most needed items," Diane McWithey, executive director of the charity told the newspaper.

"They are a renewable need that is constant for our clients, year-round."

KIMT 3 News recently reported on an Iowan mother's campaign to collect socks for soldiers in Afghanistan.
