Stacey Solomon models sheer tights

Stacey Solomon models sheer tights

Stacey Solomon showed off her shapely legs in sheer tights teamed with a short black shirt dress.

Stacey Solomon showed how to keep warm and look stylish at the same time when she attended the Disney on Ice Passport to Adventure launch party at the Disney Store, London.

The TV presenter modelled a long-sleeved black shirt dress with leather trim and colourful button detailing as she posed for pics at the event.

And while her hemline ended well above the knee, the former X Factor star kept her pins warm in sheer black tights which she teamed with high-heeled black ankle boots to pose with Disney favourites Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse on the red carpet.

Sheer hosiery is a great accessory for winter as it means women can still wear dresses, skirts and shorts without running the risk of flashing too much flesh.

They are, however, slightly more elegant than thicker opaque tights, making them perfect for occasions where you want to dress up a bit.

Leggings can be red carpet ready

Leggings can be red carpet ready

Jodi Albert shows that tights and stockings are not the only appropriate legwear for the red carpet as she models some skin-tight leggings

When people think of a red carpet ensemble, floor sweeping gowns or thigh-skimming dresses are normally what cross their mind.

However, former Hollyoaks actress Jodi Albert showed that simple can sometimes be best when she wore her trusty leggings to the Pride of Britain Awards.

The actress-turned-singer teamed her form-fitting black legwear with a loose white shirt, while her flowing brown locks and flawless makeup ensured that she looked every inch the pop star.

Her outfit may have been a bit casual compared to the glamorous dresses worn by the likes of X Factor judge Tulisa and TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, but the leopard print heels that she teamed the legwear with added some edge to the ensemble.

And it seemed that her husband, Westlife's Kian Egan, thought his wife's monochrome outfit hit the mark as he beamed as they posed for the cameras.

Other attendees at the event included TV presenters Holly Willoughby and Caroline Flack and former Spice Girls Melanie C and Emma Bunton.

Nikki Reed looks edgy in leggings

Nikki Reed looks edgy in leggings

Twilight star Nikki Reed certainly showed off her enviable legs at a recent fan event in Dublin.

The actress, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale, one of the Cullen family’s adopted children, attended the event with her co-star Kellan Lutz ahead of the release of the final instalment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn 2.

She looked every inch as stunning as her on-screen alter ego at the event in skin-tight leather leggings and high-heeled black sandals. Nikki teamed her legwear with a loose nude top with black panels on the sleeves which flattered her petite frame.

The look was completed with a bold silver pendant and an armful of bangles.

Nikki and Kellan also flew over to Glasgow for another promotional event, where, despite the chilly weather, Nikki bravely wore a short cream and black dress. We imagine she wished she’d packed some opaque tights when she realised how cold it can get north of the border!

Abbey Clancy and Sarah Harding show off their stockings

Abbey Clancy and Sarah Harding show off their stockings

Abbey Clancy and Sarah Harding were among the celebrities who flashed more than a little flesh as they appeared on stage at the Lingerie London Fashion Show this week.

Both stars showed off their perfect pins in some saucy stockings as they wowed the crowd at the fundraising event.

Mother-of-one Abbey was watched by her footballer husband Peter Crouch as she sashayed down the runway in a bold flowery bra and knickers teamed with red-topped stockings and gold heels.

She also modelled a second outfit which saw her teaming a black and gold corset with some knee socks.

Girls Aloud star Sarah was a bit more covered up in sheer shirt and also teamed her ensemble with stockings and thigh-high boots. With her normally sleek blonde hair mussed up and her face covered by statement sunglasses, the singer was hardly recognisable.

Other celebrities who took part in the show included Peaches Geldof, who kept her legwear covered in a long lace bridal-style dress, and TV presenter Zara Martin.

Opt for spooky legwear on Halloween

Opt for spooky legwear on Halloween

Dressing up for Halloween is no longer child's play, with a survey by Greggs suggesting that more than half of adults will be slipping into a costume of their own.

The spooky get-ups proving most popular with Brits include ghosts, witches and wizards, with around 15% of respondents saying they will be heading out dressed as zombies, vampires or werewolves on October 31st.

A spokesman for Greggs said: "Halloween is a great excuse for adults to act like children again. Whether it's dressing up, carving pumpkins, or spending the night in with some nail-biting horror flicks, they are truly immersing themselves in the spirit of the spooky day."

For people looking for the perfect accessories for their Halloween costume, tights can really finish off a look. Some coloured striped tights will look perfect with a witch's cloak and hat, while our special bones tights are the perfect legwear for a skeleton.

If you don't fancy donning a complete fancy dress outfit, why not just choose some spooky accessories like our pumpkin or spider-patterned tights?

Ella keeps things elegant in opaque tights

Ella keeps things elegant in opaque tights
X Factor star Ella Henderson showed off her classic sense of style on the red carpet at the premiere of new James Bond film Skyfall.

The 16-year-old looked every inch the screen star in a lacy black mini dress with a feathered hemline, while thick black opaque tights ensured that the thigh-skimming dress did not flash too much flesh.

Ella completed her red carpet look with simple black heels and a quiffed up hairdo.

She was joined at the event by her X Factor mentor Tulisa and her fellow contestants Jade Ellis and Lucy Spraggan who also wowed in monochrome ensembles, with Lucy opting for a simple suit rather than a dress.

For anyone wanting to emulate Ella’s style, black opaques are a great way to keep an outfit looking classy and ensure that your modesty is protected!

Alternatively, if you want to add a dash of colour, then brightly coloured opaque tights can help liven up your legwear while still keeping your pins covered.

Original Sugababes show off their pins in leggings

Original Sugababes show off their pins in leggings
The original Sugababes were on the red carpet at the Q Awards showing off their new edgier look as they prepare to release their new album.

Keisha and Mutya both opted to wear super tight leggings to the event, showing off their perfect pins.

Mutya went for a rock chick look, teaming her black legwear with a studded leather jacket, a simple grey t-shirt and ankle boots, while Keisha also stuck to black and grey, teaming her shiny leggings with a black top, a grey and black jacket and skyscraper heels.

Siobhan added the only splash of colour to the line-up in bright orange skin-tight jeans which she paired with leopard print heels and a black tuxedo jacket.

The three ladies make up the original Sugababes, however, the band name is currently the property of their former record label and is used by Heidi Range, Amelle Berrebah and Jade Ewen.

Cherry Healey wows in sheer tights

Cherry Healey wows in sheer tights

Cherry Healey showed that women don’t have to pack away their shorts just because the temperature is dropping by teaming her thigh-skimming shorts with sheer black tights at the Stand Up to Cancer Gala on Friday

The TV presenter teamed the shorts and hosiery with a bright hounds tooth shirt from the House of Holland and a black blazer, finishing off the look with a black clutch and black suede ankle boots.

And Henry Holland himself was obviously pleased with how Cherry styled his shirt, taking to Twitter to post “Cherry Healey is hot” and a picture of himself and the How to Get a Life star.

Sheer black tights are the perfect choice for women who don’t want to flash too much flesh at an evening event. More sophisticated than their thicker opaque counterparts, they are becoming increasingly popular with celebs such as Katie Holmes, Gwen Stefani and Jennifer Metcalfe.

Team your sheer tights with shorts and a bold top like Cherry’s for an effortlessly stylish outfit.

Martine McCutcheon stays chic in legwear

Martine McCutcheon stays chic in legwear
Martine McCutcheon proved that she is still a style icon as she took to the catwalk to host a fashion show in Birmingham this weekend.

The 36-year-old actress wore different glitzy tops and black fishnet tights at the Style Birmingham Live event, before highlighting her curves by later changing into black leggings.

She initially wore a black and grey high-waisted skirt with a silver top and black leather biker jacket, which she then swapped for a gold glittering dress with black platform heels.

Martine co-presented the show with fashion stylist Bradley Taylor, with whom she was photographed later with backstage, displaying a huge smile.

This is no doubt due to her recent wedding to "best friend" Jack McManus earlier this month.

Commenting on the nuptials she told Hello! Magazine: "We feel that we can conquer anything the world throws at us as long as we have each other, and that's a rare thing."

Amy Childs attends shop opening in slinky black leggings

Amy Childs attends shop opening in slinky black leggings
Amy Childs showed her love of animal-inspired fashion as she attended the Essex opening of boutique So Glam this week.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star dressed in super-tight slinky black leggings, pairing them with a lion print black t-shirt, cropped, studded biker jacket and towering ankle boots.

With her red hair worn in cascading waves, her all-black choice of outfit certainly had a rocky edge, especially with her blood red nail varnish.

Amy stepped out to the event with her boyfriend of four months, model David Peters, who dressed more casually in a cream cardigan, with a blue v-neck t-shirt, faded skinny jeans and white trainers.

With rumours of a new TOWIE movie, the reality star, who left the award-winning series last year, has revealed she would love to star in it.

In her New Magazine column, she wrote: "No-one's asked me to be in it but I'd definitely say yes if they did."

Celebrities donating socks for 'Socktober'

Celebrities donating socks for 'Socktober'
Celebrities have been donating their leg wear to a charity auction on Peterborough.

Free Kicks Foundation is selling socks from famous feet every day on eBay throughout the month of 'Socktober' in order to raise money for the children's charity.

Co-founder of the organisation, Steve Thorpe told the BBC that the name was thought up in January and then they had to decide how to involve socks.

"We think it's quite a unique idea that will really capture people's imagination," he explained, adding that it was just a matter of pestering celebrities.

Famous faces who have donated their socks include boxer Ricky Hatton, journalist Alastair Campbell, footballer Fabio Borini and swimmer Ellie Simmonds.

Mr Thorpe said: "The majority of them had been washed first, but there are a few that have a bit of a used smell about them."

As well as legwear a selection of signed sports memorabilia is being included in the daily auctions.

Brazilian fans throw underwear at The Wanted

Brazilian fans throw underwear at The Wanted
While The Wanted are familiar with female attention, it seems that the actions of their fans in Rio de Janeiro still took them by surprise.

Playing at the Brazilian Z Festival last week, the popstars were inundated with underwear, from skimpy thongs to sultry silk lingerie.

Siva Kaneswaran posted a picture of bandmate Jay McGuinness pocketing a slinky red pair on his Twitter account.

He wrote "yes that actually happened @jaythewanted the perv [sic]".

Jay later took to the social networking site to praise his fans, saying "the Fanmily were awesome tonight [sic]".

It's not just The Wanted who enjoy receiving underwear from fans while performing on stage, as One Direction frequently admit to being bombarded with lingerie.

However, despite the boys enjoying this, Liam Payne recently said: "We've nearly fallen over knickers on stage."

But, Harry Styles joked that he wasn't too worried, quipping: "I like knickers."

David Beckham 'prefers tight underwear'

David Beckham 'prefers tight underwear'
David Beckham has admitted that when it comes to under garments he prefers classic designs.

The football icon told the Time Warner Cable Sportsnet launch on Monday night in California that he generally opts for "tighty-whities" when looking for underwear.

He told Celebuzz: "Someone asked me about tighty-whities the other day, and I love them! They're comfortable. I think they feel great, especially when you're playing soccer, as well.

"It's [comfortable]. But I wear boxers as well," Beckham added.

The 37-year-old father of four has recently launched his own underwear line and is currently shooting advertisements wearing the garments himself, while showing off his toned muscles and tattooed torso.

Despite his fashion designer wife Victoria being very particular with her choice of clothing, he later joked that she doesn't mind what underwear he dons.

"She likes whatever I wear, of course!" he added.

Kate Middleton made a seasonal return to her favourite leg wear option this week as she visited the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple with Prince William.

The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out wearing her trusty opaque black tights, as well as a flare burgundy miniskirt and matching jacket by designer Paule Ka.

She complemented the ensemble with smart suede heels and left her brunette locks loose yet wavy on the trip to one of the four ancient Inns of Court.

The couple were at the venue to introduce a new scholarship programme for law students in particular financial need, or who have overcome adversity, in order to pursue their studies.

This is the first official public visit since revealing pictures of Kate appeared in magazines and on the internet, which have been deemed a "grotesque" invasion of her privacy by the royal family.

Sock museum prepares to open in China

Sock museum prepares to open in China
Leg wear fans in China can soon visit some of the world's most famous garments as part of a new museum.

The Chan Socks Museum, which will open to the public in November, will display thousands of socks collected from around the world, accompanied by an in-depth history of the development of this clothing type, China Daily reports.

Owner Zhu Cheng said that "the 3,000-square-metre museum will combine exhibitions with research, education and entertainment", with celebrity socks belonging to Michael Jackson and those worn by China's first astronaut.

As well as a wide variety of standard socks, he added that the centre would exhibit specially-made socks, which are fireproof, evaporate sweat and act as air-conditioners, using exciting new technology.

Mr Cheng went on to discuss how socks have evolved over the centuries and have now "become an important part of fashion" and an extension of the wearer's personal style.

Men 'still relying on women to buy their underwear'

Men 'still relying on women to buy their underwear'
While the metrosexual trend continues to thrive, it seems that many men are still relying on women to buy much of their clothes.

New research from Sainsbury's has found that two-thirds of men still depend on their mothers, wives and girlfriends to keep their underwear drawer fully stocked.

They also reportedly let they ladies dictate the style, giving them a choice of y-fronts, boxer shorts and brightly-coloured trunks.

A spokesman for the supermarket, said: "We've noticed a 30 per cent rise in sales of men's pants over the last year and our stores tell us that it's ladies looking to revamp their partners' underwear drawers."

With the rise of celebrity endorsements, the study also found that fitted trunk sales are becoming more popular than traditional boxers for the first time.

This is partly due to stars such as David Beckham, Thom Evans and David Gandy who are famed for wearing tight underwear.

Chloe Moretz appears mature in leather leggings

Chloe Moretz appears mature in leather leggings
At the tender age of 15 Chloe Moretz has had a more prominent career than many actresses twice her age, and it seems this confidence and disregard for age is seeping into her wardrobe.

Choose a winter hat 'to suit your face shape'

Choose a winter hat 'to suit your face shape'
When choosing winter headgear, it pays to match it to your face shape.

Eugenia Kim, a prominent hat designer, says that as it's often the finishing touch to an outfit it is important that it suits you.

The New York-based professional told the Wall Street Journal that it's better to have hats stand out from winter coats, rather than matching, as this creates more of a statement, especially if it's a solid colour.

"If you have a round face, a bigger brim will make your face look skinnier," Ms Kim said.

Meanwhile, a hat with a round crown can widen the face, while sharper, angular crowns can make it look narrower and longer.

Finally to avoided the dreaded hat hair she suggests picking a slightly bigger sized hat, as "if it doesn't hug your head, you won't have hat head".

Cheryl Cole 'prefers cheap underwear'

Cheryl Cole might be one of the biggest names in UK pop music, but she's no diva when it comes to buying under garments.

During her recent A Million Lights tour in Liverpool, the singer was forced to send out a member of staff to get her more underwear.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Cheryl literally ran out of knickers during her Liverpool leg of the tour. She asked people to go and track down some nice underwear for her to wear for the rest of the dates.

"Cheryl was very precise about what she wanted, ordering cheap, stringy and small."

The team then came back with a black lacy thong, as well as black and pink lacy knickers.

Meanwhile, Tinie Tempah recently revealed that he turned down the opportunity to party with Cheryl, telling The Sun that he was too tired and "ended up chilling with Dizzee Rascal".

Kim Kardashian opts for leather leggings
A poll out this week found that leather trousers were women's most regretted fashion choice, however it seems that Kim Kardashian doesn't share this sentiment.

Ignoring the Lambrini survey, the reality TV star opted for a pair of leather leggings, a plunging blouse and fur jacket as she jetted out of Miami International Airport this week.

The 31-year-old accessorised the dark outfit with stiletto heels and looked extremely snug in the ensemble, despite the high humidity and rising temperatures outside.

Kim has been in the Sunshine State with her sister Kourtney as they film the latest season of their reality spin-off show Kourtney & Kim Take Miami.

The lighthearted show chronicles the pairs attempt to set up a new clothing store, with many mishaps along the way.

This includes residents blocking the sisters' application to move one of their boutique's to South Beach.

Despite winning Rear of the Year twice, Carol is modest when describing her appearance, and revealed that while she enjoys dyeing her hair she's not overly worried about what people make of her.

Carol later went on to discuss her difficult family life, telling the interviewer that women should be more encouraging of each other.

"It's very difficult to have a husband, children and career," the mother-of-two said, especially as women are so critical of one another.

Christina Aguilera 'prefers not to wear underwear'
Christina Aguilera made an unusual admission about her wardrobe choices this week when she appeared on US chat show Chelsea Lately.

The singer and former The Voice USA judge told host Chelsea Handler: "I don't like to wear underwear. I like to be as free as possible at all times. It's just who I am."

She arrived on the show with her newly-dyed red hair, a colourful jacket and shorts combination and heavy makeup as she discussed going commando.

Christina is currently taking a hiatus from judging the talent show in order to work on her upcoming album Lotus.

Taking over from her and fellow judge Cee-Lo Green are Shakira and Usher, who the Beautiful singer described as being very accomplished artists.

"They're very experienced artists. Shakira will bring a little Latin flair. It will be fun to see what they bring to the table," she recently said to ET Canada.

Afghanistan troops welcome knitted hat donations

Afghanistan troops welcome knitted hat donations
Troops in Afghanistan could be in for a warmer winter than usual, thanks to the hard work of dedicated knitters.

Craft groups across Edinburgh have joined forces with the charity Parcels4Troops to provide hundreds of warm woolly hats to soldiers currently serving in the 1st Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

Temperatures regularly drop below freezing in the winter months, and the care packages provided by the charity can be a huge morale boost.

John Robertson, vice-chairman of Parcels4Troops, explained that the idea first began with blankets made by the Wester Hailes Knit and Natter group and soon progressed to hundreds of hats made by many different people.

"It's gone city-wide and the response has been amazing," he said.

Discussing the hats, organiser of the group, Joyce Mackay, revealed that most have them are quite brightly coloured and designed to be worn at night.

However, she added that some have been knitted in a darker colour "that will fit under a regulation helmet, so they can be worn on duty".
