Choose a winter hat 'to suit your face shape'
When choosing winter headgear, it pays to match it to your face shape.

Eugenia Kim, a prominent hat designer, says that as it's often the finishing touch to an outfit it is important that it suits you.

The New York-based professional told the Wall Street Journal that it's better to have hats stand out from winter coats, rather than matching, as this creates more of a statement, especially if it's a solid colour.

"If you have a round face, a bigger brim will make your face look skinnier," Ms Kim said.

Meanwhile, a hat with a round crown can widen the face, while sharper, angular crowns can make it look narrower and longer.

Finally to avoided the dreaded hat hair she suggests picking a slightly bigger sized hat, as "if it doesn't hug your head, you won't have hat head".
