Catliff in tights at fashion gala

Catliff in tights at fashion gala

Fashion blogger Ella Catliff pulled on a pair of tights for the WGSN Global Fashion Awards at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old combined the sheer hosiery with a floral pink and purple dress as well as a pair of simple black high-heels.

Catliff wasn't the only fashionista rocking the tights look at the swanky event.

Commentator Susie Lau also pulled on some tights, however she opted for a thicker pair of black woollies, which she combined with an Aztec-looking dress in a blue, black, red and white pattern. She topped her outfit with a pair of light blue and pink patterned platforms.

Catliff, who runs the blog La Petite Anglaise, has worked with high-end fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton, and fashion media including Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.

Lau on the other hand can be found writing for Elle, The Daily Rubbish and Dazed Digital.

Agron in tights at The Family event

Agron in tights at The Family event

Dianna Agron pulled on some sheer tights as she lined up alongside Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer for a photocall for The Family at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Monday.

Agron wore the tights with a pair of black high-heels and an elegant crimson dress, while co-stars De Niro and Pfeiffer opted for a more casual look.

Pfeiffer combined black trousers with a dark blue floral-patterned blouse and De Niro went for a pair of black shoes, denim jeans and a black polo shirt to go with a brown blazer.

The Family, directed by Luc Besson (Taken), focuses around the Manzoni family, an infamous mafia clan that is forced to relocate to Normandy after entering the witness protection programme.

Also starring Tommy Lee Jones, The Family contains all the action that is expected from a Besson film, thrown in with bursts of comedy that line-up somewhere between In Bruges and Hot Fuzz.

With Martin Scorsese as an executive producer the mob element is creatively captured, while Besson's French routes help to give the film that sense of European authenticity.

The film will be released in the UK on 22 November.

Ankle socks for Olivia Colman

Ankle socks for Olivia Colman

At first glance Olivia Colman's all black outfit for the BFI Luminous Gala may have seemed a bit dull.

However, the award-winning actress ensured she added some interesting legwear and accessories to liven up her ensemble.

She teamed her black peplum dress and ruffled coat with bright red heels, some cute fishnet ankle socks and a cobalt blue bag.

Ankle socks are a great way to liven up a plain outfit, if fishnets aren't your thing, choose a cute lacy pair.

Olivia wore her hair twisted into a loose chignon and kept her makeup simple.

Other attendees at the event included Emilia Fox who wore an eye-catching blue silk dress with a split to the thigh and button detailing. Singer Eliza Doolittle also opted for a floor-length dress, choosing a silver underwear-inspired number. She added to the dramatic look with bold red lipstick.

Steinfeld struts out in tights

Steinfeld struts out in tights

Hailee Steinfeld pulled on a pair of dark tights for the Ender's Game photocall in London on Monday.

The 16-year-old combined the black tights with a pair of black boots and a black and white striped dress.

Ender's Game is a post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi flick, based on Orson Scott Card's novel of the same name. Set 70 years after an alien invasion put human life on the verge of extinction, the film revolves around a group led by boy-genius Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) and his battle to save the planet.

Steinfeld plays Petra Arkanian, a member of Ender's crew who helps him to fight back against the alien invaders.

Steinfeld will also hit cinemas on Friday when Carlo Carlei's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is released.

Despite being set in Renaissance Verona, the film has been criticised for potentially misleading audience in its altered Shakespearian dialogue.

Steinfeld is set for a busy 2014 with five films currently in the pipeline to be released next year.

Ender's Game will be release on 25 October in the UK.

Sofía Vergara pulled on a pair of tight leather-look leggings for a fan appreciation day for the hit sitcom Modern Family in Los Angeles on Monday.

Ty Burrell, Ariel Winter, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were among some of the other cast members putting in an appearance.

While the event did help fans see stars of the show, it also marked the start of show's affiliation with the charity, Feeding America.

The idea behind the charity drive is to support around 200 food banks across the US to put food on the tables of needy families during the Christmas period.

Latest fashion no-nos revealed

Latest fashion no-nos revealed

Socks with sandals has once again made a list of fashion no-nos.

According to a new poll by TLC TV, men wearing socks with sandals is a real turn-off for women.

However, there were some other crimes against fashion that women find more offensive, including low-hanging jeans which reveal boxer shorts, baseball caps worn balanced on the back of the head and onesies.

Ankle skimming trousers, fake tan, spiky earrings, UGG boots, Lycra and Crocs complete the top ten.

The survey also found that women are quite likely to turn down a date if the man is badly dressed. Only 47% would accept a date with someone who has bad fashion sense, in comparison to 55% of men who would date a badly dressed woman.

If men are looking for style inspiration, women would most like their man to dress the same as David Beckham, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gary Barlow, or, perhaps surprisingly, Philip Schofield.

Chrissie lets out the leopard print

The Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde pulled on some leopard print leggings as she lined up alongside Ellie Goulding at the Q Music Awards on Monday.

Goulding on the other hand opted for a much more understated look, pulled on an elegant black dress with sheer webbing and a simple pair of black shoes.

The Herefordshire-born singer picked up the gong for Best Solo Artist, pipping David Bowie and Jake Bugg to the title.

Bowie, who was nominated for six awards in total, failed to walk away with any prizes at the end of the night having been edged out by Biffy Clyro in the Best Album category and the Arctic Monkeys for Best Track.

He was also beaten in the Best Live Act and Best Act In The World Today categories, which went to shock winners Foals and Vampire Weekend respectively.

The Glastonbury Festival was named the Best Event, while Manic Street Preachers won the Best Video award for Show Me The Wonder.

Black tights and clashing prints

Black tights and clashing prints

Harper's Bazaar launched their ART supplement at a party in Mayfair this week, with scores of famous faces making their way into the event.

Someone who certainly left a lasting impression on the red carpet was Lara Bohinc who bravely wore mismatched prints on her red skirt and black top.

Though the prints didn't match, they resembled a similar animal print fashion trend making the outfit work overall.

She matched her red skirt to her lipstick and toned down her outfit by adding thin black tights, black ankle boots and handbag to her getup.

The jewellery designer naturally donned rings and bracelets to complement her outfit.

The launch party took place at the Halcyon Gallery in Central London on 3 October.

The event saw an eclectic group of big names brought together, such as TV presenter Quentin Wilson, models Tallulah Harlech and Camilla Rutherford and former-Dragon Kelly Hoppen.

Wrong socks for Mario Goetze

Wrong socks for Mario Goetze

German footballer Mario Goetze is in hot water this week after wearing the wrong sports socks while playing in a World Cup qualifier against Ireland.

The sports star appeared on the pitch wearing socks from his own personal sponsor, rather than the national side's official supplier.

However, he insisted he was not trying to get his sponsor some extra publicity, saying that he was wearing them due to injury.

"These are compression socks which I have been wearing due to my injury," the midfielder, who has only recently returned to action after hurting his ankle in August, told Bild newspaper.

"I did not want to provoke or advertise anything. This will not happen again."

This is not the first time Goetze's choice of clothing has landed him in trouble. He was previously fined by his team Bayern Munich after appearing at an official presentation wearing a t-shirt which featured his personal sponsor's logo rather than that of the club supplier.

Cher models fishnet tights

Cher models fishnet tights

Cher is certainly fond of fishnets. She famously wore a fishnet body-stocking for her Turn Back Time video and recently pulled on a pair for an interview with Graham Norton.

The singer and actress teamed her legwear with a short black skirt, a tartan shirt and black heels.

Her trademark black locks were worn loose around her shoulders.

Cher performed her new single I Hope You Find It on the show and also shared the sofa with Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jennifer Saunders for a chat with Graham.

Her noticeable outfit was certainly a stark contrast to the simple black and white ensembles both of the other female stars wore.

I Hope You Find It, which currently sits at 25 in the Official Singles Chart, is from Cher's new album Closer to the Truth, which is her 25th studio album since launching her career in the 1960s.

Next year will see her embarking on a new tour, Dress To Kill, and we imagine we'll see a few pairs of fishnet tights being worn on stage.

No socks for X Factor stars

No socks for X Factor stars

There was a common theme among the male X Factor contestants' outfits as they attended the Thor 2 premiere on Tuesday; few of them wore socks

Luke Friend's lack of socks was most obvious as he wore tight-fitting cropped trousers despite the chill in the air. The outfit was completed with a grey and black floral shirt, a black bow-tie and a black blazer. He also accessorised with an ankle bracelet.

Josh and Connor from Kingsland Road both ditched their socks too, opting to team their smart suits with bare ankles.

However, Joey Thomas of Rough Copy went the other way and proudly displayed his white socks in a Michael Jackson-inspired get-up. As well as the bright white footwear he wore PVC effect black trousers, a white t-shirt, a black blazer and a fur snood.

In keeping with his new celeb status he also accessorised with some black sunglasses.

Monday nights have never been as glamorous, as reams of celebrities arrived for the premiere of Filth, all naturally wearing bang-on-trend outfits.

Dakota Blue Richards swayed away from her namesake colour and opted for a simplistic black outfit - however she did pose for photos on the blue carpet.

Her black ensemble was made up of a dipped hem black dress with sheer arm panels, matching her sheer black tights.

It seemed a perfect option for the autumn/winter chill, teaming a long sleeved dress with tights to look elegant yet warm.

Lead actor James McAvoy posed on the blue carpet next to his sister and co-star, Joy, who also opted for warmth by donning a pair of thick black tights for the occasion.

Paris Fashion Week is a time when fashionistas worldwide scroll through pages online, or for the truly dedicated - visit the fashion capital, to see the new trends.

So it comes as no surprise to see images of celebrities emerging at shows wearing new designs.

One particular fashion that Leigh Lezark is sporting at the Chanel show, is thigh-high leather boots.

While it took a while to determine whether these were boots, as opposed to leggings - we understand this is a new trend, despite not looking the most comfortable item of clothing.

Hard-core followers of fashion may follow in the steps of Leigh, however for those seeking similar style in a more relaxed way - tight leather leggings provide the perfect solution to fashion and comfort.

In Paris, Leigh opted for a skater skirt and Aztec print jumper, but they can be jazzed up with a black top, statement jewellery and heels or dress down with an oversized knitted jumper and flat shoes.

Orange Is The New Black may have been the focus point of the evening at The Paley Center for Media on Wednesday, but it certainly wasn't always put into practice.
