Vancouver's Union Gospel Mission has received an unusual gift thanks to the GotGinch project.
A staggering 4,500 pairs of underwear
were dropped off by the social-giving networks DeliverGood.org and GotGinch, as part of their first stop in a new cross-Canada underwear drive.
The groups have been delivering boxes of undergarments for homeless people in ten Canadian cities for four years now, and for the first time the donation includes women's knickers as well.
Gabriella Ostendorfer, who helped run the project, told The Province that she was inspired to start her own drive called Need Knickers to help collect female underwear for the cause too.
"It's one small thing that provides dignity. I know they need other things too, but to have a clean pair of underwear is also important," she said.
Other shelters in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax will all receive donations over the next week.
