As well as being one of the best-selling books of all time, erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey could be affecting clothing sales too.
New figures from department store Debenhams have shown that underwear
sales have risen dramatically since the meteoric success of the E.L James book.
Female underwear sales are up by 63 per cent according to the retailer, with babydoll nighties witnessing a 105 per cent jump in sales over the last month.
Commenting on the figures, the firm's head of lingerie, Sharon Webb claimed: "We've seen a huge increase in male customers visiting our lingerie departments over the last fortnight."
"Since the 50 shades phenomenon men are purchasing more daring pieces," she went on to admit, saying that silky sets, negligees, thongs, stockings and suspenders are all selling well.
The main character in the novel, Christian Grey frequently shopped for women's underwear, however this was usually with the help of his assistant, a luxury most British men are unlikely to have.
