Celebrity spotters and photographers turned up in force to usher in Gilliam and other stars through the doors of the Corinthia Hotel to honour the hardman actor's achievements.
Gilliam was joined by actors Richard E. Grant, Sir Ian Holm and John Hurt, and movie all-rounder Steven Berkoff.
Pacino was honoured with the fellowship, which is the film institute's leading accolade at last Wednesday's bash (September 24).
