Mercerising is a treatment that the yarn is put through which removes any stray or rough fibres and gives it an extra strength and gorgeous sheen finish.

Although the mercerising process was devised in 1844 by John Mercer, it was not until 1980 when H.A. Lowe improved the process did mercerising become popular.
