Films to watch out for in 2019

Posted by SOCKSHOP

If you’re a film fan, you’ll be pleased to know that 2019 is shaping up to be a bumper year for Hollywood. Here are some of the ones to watch out for…

2019 Film

Captain Marvel
2019’s first release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Brie Larson star in the stable’s first film fronted by a female superhero. Larson plays Carol Danvers, an ex-US Air Force pilot who gets super powers after an accident. If you love Captain Marvel you won’t have to wait too long to see her in action again, either — she’ll be appearing in Avengers: Endgame, expected to hit cinemas in April.

UK release date: 8 March 2019

Dumbo
In a year of live-action remakes, it’s the reimagining of Dumbo that promises to be the most enthralling. The movie stars Colin Farrell, Eva Green and Danny DeVito, but it’s the CGI elephant himself that will be the star of the show – while Tim Burton directs, so expect the unexpected. And if Dumbo’s not enough for you, Disney is also releasing live-action remakes of both Aladdin (May 24) and The Lion King (July 19).

UK release date: 29 March 2019

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The ninth film to be written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set to be one of the smash hits of summer 2019. The crime thriller is based on events surrounding the gruesome Manson Family murders which took place back in 1969. An all-star cast is led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, and fans can expect the standard Tarantino thrills and spills.

UK release date: 26 July 2019

Star Wars: Episode IX
Star Wars
fans will be pleased to know the ninth and final instalment to the Skywalker saga finally hits UK cinemas in late 2019. JJ Abrams is directing and the film will see the return of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and even the late Carrie Fisher, thanks to exclusive unused footage. Disney will be hoping it fairs better than recent spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story, which struggled at the box office and forced a re-think of future plans.

UK release date: 19 December 2019

Frozen 2
Just when we’ve finally started to let it go, another Frozen movie hits the big screen! The story sees fans reunited with sisters Anna and Elsa in Arendelle and the action is almost certainly going to be wintry. Disney will be hoping the sequel matches the runaway success of the first movie, but this isn’t the only sequel it has planned for 2019 — Toy Story 4 is also heading our way this summer!

UK release date: 22 November 2019
