Our 'Design a Sock' ideas (just for fun)

Posted by Katrina

We’ve launched an amazing competition this week that I am very excited about. We are giving people the chance to design a new ‘Dare to Wear’ sock, and the winning designs will actually get made and go on sale on the SOCKSHOP website!!!

The idea behind the competition came from a contest we run every year with a local secondary school, where we ask the pupils to come up with some fun Christmas sock designs. This has been extremely successful, with past designs proving to be some of our most popular Christmas socks.

But we thought, why should the kids get to have all the fun?! We want children and adults of all ages to take part, and submit a design that we can sell as part of our ‘Dare to Wear’ collection, which is made up of novelty and occasions socks.

And to give you a bit of inspiration, I’ve asked a few people at SOCKSHOP HQ to come up with their own designs, (just for fun).

'Twinkle Toes' by Danielle

Twinkle Toes

Danielle's design demonstrates how easy it is to draw and colour the sock by hand, plus she gets to add glitter, which would be lost if she had done it on the computer.

Danielle came up with the idea because she loves a good boogy, and really wanted to incorporate glitter into the design.

'When It Rains...' by Joe

When It Rains...

Joe felt his drawing skills would let him down and so decided to do the design on Adobe Illustrator instead!

Joe chose his design because, as we all know, the British weather (and in particular, rain) has been a big topic of conversation this year. The design is quite simple and fun, with the idea of the rain gathering in the toe of the sock.

'I Do' by Katrina

I Do

So I couldn't resist having a go at designing a sock myself! I'm getting married next year, so weddings are at the forefront of my mind at the moment. I also know that wearing bright socks has become a bit of a trend among grooms so I decided to play on that, throwing in the 'I do' text on the foot of the sock for a bit of fun.

And it's as easy as that! I hope our designs have inspired you, and shown that you can use felt-pen pens, pencils, or a snazzy computer program to make a good creation.

Click here to find out more information about the competition. Entries can be submitted via post, email, Facebook or Twitter. The closing date is Friday 31st August.

Good luck!
