How to: never lose your socks again

It’s a conundrum that has plagued mankind since the first cavemen decided to keep their feet warm during winter – where did that other sock go? With these helpful tips and tricks, you'll no longer have to resort to odd socks...

Losing a sock might not seem like a big deal at the time. You might not even notice it has disappeared.

Until washing day that is, when you find that last clean ‘pair’ is either a single sock bunched up or 2 odd socks put together in haste.

With these helpful tips and tricks, you'll no longer have to resort to odd socks...
You'll no longer have to resort to odd socks...

With these tips, you'll always have a drawer full of happily paired socks...

1. Bunch them up when you take them off

Socks get lost somewhere between leaving your feet and coming out of the washing machine.

Don’t throw them under the bed and don’t let them go their own way. Socks are a bit like magnets – opposites attract while pairs repel each other.

Once they come off your feet, bunch them together and stick them straight in to the wash basket.

2. Pair them up before the wash

If you’ve done as we told you and bunched them together, you can skip this step. But for those who haven’t (tut tut) make sure when you’re doing the washing you have 2 of each sock. That’s 2, not 1.

If you find a lone ranger, don’t wash him. This is what they want you to do. Leave him in the wash basket until his partner turns up.

3. Bag them in the wash

Once you’ve managed to corral the pairs together, don’t let them get away in the washing machine. You’d be surprised by how many escape routes there are.

A good tip is to use a folding tip, which involves laying them on top of each other with their heels facing up, folding them into thirds and then tucking the ends in.

Whatever option you go for, make sure to fold them securely – don’t just quickly tuck them together as they will wriggle apart.

6. And if you do lose one… then just be a little bit odd

You know what, life’s too short to worry about where socks go...

If worse comes to worst and you’re faced with 2 odd socks in your drawer, go for it and wear them together. Call it a style choice if anyone asks.
