How to donate socks to homeless charities

Posted by SOCKSHOP

Through our #socksforacause campaign, we are encouraging people across the UK to donate more socks to homeless charities - as they’re one of the most needed but least donated items.

We have already shared lots of information on why we need your help but here's how...

Donate Socks to Homeless Charities

Find a charity

It is often the smaller, local charities who struggle with donations more than those that work nationwide - so the best thing to do is get in touch in advance to check.

Here is a list of some of the larger charities and organisations which operate across the UK, and may have a branch local to you:

  • Shelter
  • Crisis
  • Centrepoint
  • Big Issue Foundation
  • Depaul UK
  • Emmaus

Alternatively, you can search for different charities and services via the Homeless Link website before contacting them to see if they would benefit from sock donations.

Check your socks

Although charities are very grateful for the wide range of donations people make, they cannot do much with dirty or damaged socks.

Any brand new socks can be given straight to your chosen charity, but if you’re donating old socks, please make sure that they are clean and in a good state of repair before doing so.

Be sure to check at the back of your drawers for those novelty pairs that you’ve not quite got around to wearing, as well as those that are just a little too snug or loose for you!

Making a donation

There are a number of ways to donate socks to a homeless charities, dependent on your and their preferences. The most common ways are:

  • In branch - simply hand over your socks to a member of the team at their centre
  • By post - send a donation to the relevant address, as per your chosen charity
  • Drop off points - such as supermarkets or schools

By getting in touch with the charity you’d like to make a donation to, we are sure that you will be able to find a simple way to donate socks and other items that will have a big impact on the work they do.

Be sure to keep up-to-date with our #socksforacause campaign via the blog and social media, and help us spread the word about donating socks to homeless charities!
