Preparing for a photoshoot

Posted by Katrina

As much as we’d like to think that our beautiful tights can sell themselves on their fine qualities alone, we do like to show them off in a pretty and glamorous photoshoot every now and then!

These shoots tend to happen quite far in advance; last January we went to a yurt campsite in the Lake District with the following winter’s items, in October we ‘Christmassed up’ a house in the Peaks and for our next shoot, we are heading to a beach - in March!

Past shoots
Past shoots have included a wintery theme in a yurt and Christmas in a large country house.

At this stage we like to brainstorm what the theme of the shoot will be. To do this we conduct quite a bit of research, both on the internet and in magazines, to get an idea of the latest styles and trends that are appearing at the moment.

After doing this, we’ve decided that a relaxed, beach, festival vibe will be the theme of the shoot. This will give us the opportunity to show off our amazing welly socks as well as all the fab new spring/summer socks that are coming to SOCKSHOP.

We'll be shooting some of our bright new arrivals, along with our welly socks.

The next stage is to choose who we want to model the items. Picking models can be a bit of a tricky task, as each have their own style and ‘look’ that fits a certain type of brand and shoot. In this instance, we are looking for one male model and one female model that are quite quirky and cool and that can pull of the ‘beach chic’ look that we’re going for. Luckily we have a few in mind that we think fit the bill!

Set dressing is also an important factor to consider before a shoot, as these props help create the scene, assist in varying the shots the photographer takes and help the models get into the right frame of mind. For this shoot we have one particular prop that is rather large and we think will look great – A VW campervan!

The lovely Mike from Alternative Bike Co. is lending us his very cool VW campervan.

Final preparations include organising everything we want to take with us – from the items to the inspiration boards which will help the models with their poses. But there is one thing we can’t control on an outdoor shoot in the UK – the weather! So as well as being prepared, the most important thing to remember when organising a shoot is to be flexible (and take an umbrella!).

Keep your eyes peeled for all the behind-the-scenes shots of our beach photoshoot, coming soon!
