Last minute Christmas wrapping tips

We’ve all been there – you think you’re all ready for Christmas with the decorations up, the drinks cupboard stocked and plans in place for the big day. Then suddenly you stumble across a pile of presents you’ve forgotten to wrap.

There’s no paper left and you’ve only got days to go before you need to start distributing them.
   

Fear not – we’re here to rescue you with our tips for last minute wrapping…

Box it up

If you’ve got no paper you could simply put it in a box. This also works well for awkward shaped presents and for collections of smaller ones.

Don’t wrap them all individually or attempt to get clean edges of paper on gardening sheers – just stick them in a nice square box and wrap a bow around it.

Make sure the box is clean and use some tissue paper or bubble wrap inside as padding.

Put it in a bag

The alternative to box is a bag. They’re great for things like wine bottles, but can be used for a variety of gifts.

Again, use a bit of paper inside to keep things in place then tie the top shut with some nice ribbon.

The beauty of bows

Most things look better with a bow – that’s just a fact. If your wrapping is looking a little lacklustre, then try and give it a new lease of life with a bow.

Get the scissors out and create long twirling ties or use thick ribbon to help hide your poor attempts at wrapping.

Think outside the box

Christmas is a time to get creative. Get everything you can to hand and get going. Whether that’s glitter, stick on jewels, paint, coloured tape or old photos, they can all be used to update your presents.

If you’ve got kids, wrap presents in plain white paper and let them go wild with festive coloured pens and paints. And for a rustic touch, tie some coloured pine cones to the bows.

You can easily decorate brown paper wrapped presents as festive scenes, the nativity or as gingerbread houses with some coloured card and a few felt pens.

The gift of a gift tag

Gift tags tend to be fairly uniform. But they don’t have to be. Why not print out photos with you and the person who’s receiving the gift on and use these as gift cards.

Or use leftover pieces of wrapping paper that aren’t big enough for presents but could be cut into smaller shapes for gift tags.
