6 easy steps to improve your well-being

Posted by SOCKSHOP

Ahead of World Health Day (April 7), we take a look at some of the simple ways you can improve your well-being.

Well-being

Meditate
The benefits of meditation — both for your physical and mental health — are plentiful, however you choose to do it. Whether you’re balancing your chakras or simply sitting on your sofa and taking a few quiet moments for yourself, meditation can reduce stress, improve sleep and clear your mind.

Exercise
Exercising makes your body release endorphins, a chemical that can trigger positive feelings and help reduce those of stress. It doesn’t matter if you prefer swimming, yoga or simply a brisk walk in the park, anything that gets your heartbeat racing will help your well-being.

Plan ahead
If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed by the sheer number of things you have on your to-do list, you can make it all seem a little more manageable by planning ahead and breaking it down into small, attainable goals. Tick off tasks when they’re complete and treat yourself when you pass a new milestone.

Well-being

Hydrate
Experts recommend drinking around 2 litres of water every day to prevent dehydration and keep your body functioning properly. Drinking water can increase your motivation and energy levels, decrease any feelings of fatigue you may have and improve your bodily functions, leaving you feeling altogether better.

Keep learning
Think learning is just for children? Think again. Just as gaining knowledge has a positive impact on a child’s development, picking up new skills later on in life can work wonders on your well-being. Learning new skills can improve your mental health, as well as encouraging social interaction and providing a new sense of purpose.

Connect with others
Humans are social animals, and maintaining connections with friends, family and members of the wider community can be a fun and easy way to improve your well-being. Sign up for a class at your local community centre or college or join a sports team or a meet-up group online and improve your own mental well-being.
