Fitness apps to start 2021

We have, again, found ourselves back at home with exercise one of the few things we’re really able to do…

Fitness Apps for 2021

So if you’re in need of a new challenge, or want to start your exercise journey now – here’s a list of exciting fitness apps to try this year.

Couch to 5K
Starting with a classic, we have this free app from Public Health England. If you haven’t yet given it a whirl and want something that’s with you every step of the way, pulls you off your sofa and puts you in your running shoes… this is for you. Choose between well-known voices like Olympian Michael Johnson, comedian Sarah Millican and presenter Jo Whiley (or resident runner Laura) to be your friendly companion and personal coach. You can listen to your own music at the same time. Say goodbye to your inner couch potato and hello to endorphins.

Apple Fitness+
The big newcomer is this service powered by Apple Watch – if you already have one it’s £9.99 a month, and if you buy one you’ll get three months’ free. Think expert trainers, a variety of (updating) workouts to choose from, personal metrics, music playlists – any time, any place. Perfect for a pro or a complete beginner. The power of how you use it, is in your hands.

Find What Feels Good
If you’re a fan of Yoga With Adriene, but doing her videos on YouTube feels a bit… 2020, did you know about this extra app she has? You get the complete YWA library without ads, exclusive new videos and courses, live classes, guest trainers and experts, behind the scenes footage and even monthly personal vlogs from Adriene herself. This is the one thing she does charge for ($9.99 a month) – but you can do the 7-day free trial to snoop around and see if it’s worth it!

The Body Coach
Yes, that’s right – the man, the myth, the PE teacher to millions… Joe Wicks is back. Except this is another level-up from an already familiar face. Joe’s recently-launched app includes weekly exclusive live workouts, personalised meal plans (which deliver in taste and portion size while removing calorie counting stress), real-time HIIT workouts, motivating benefits and more. You can make the most of the launch offer, which works out at only £5.83 a month.

Headspace
Always remember – your mental fitness is important too, not to mention it also has positive effects on your physical health. So if meditation and mindfulness are things you want to explore this year, this free app is your best bet. It accommodates those who may only have time for a quick 10-minute session, and builds you up slowly, starting with the very basics. Unlock your inner zen.
