How to celebrate Pride Month during lockdown

Posted by SOCKSHOP

Street parties are cancelled and parades put on hold. Never fear, we’ve got the socially-distanced answer to your cancelled Pride plans…

Pride 2020

Deck the halls
Pride couldn’t come at a better time for those who’ve grown tired of the same four walls during lockdown. Injecting some colour to your interior could be just the lift your living room needs. Lanterns, streamers, balloons and more are available in the full spectrum of colours to truly transform your home. Try bunting on banisters and flags around frames for a Pride-appropriate makeover. Keep an eye out for decoration suppliers who donate their profits to LGBT+ charities.

Stream films
If you prefer a more relaxing celebration, an LGBT+ movie marathon could be the perfect way to mark the month, whether it’s a cult classic like 2001's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a critically acclaimed drama like Brokeback Mountain, or a fun feel-good film with a strong message like 2014's Pride. there are plenty of films out there to educate and entertain. Get your streaming subscriptions and snack supplies ready.

Bake rainbow-themed treats
Why not fuel your festivities by preparing your own colourful canapés? Think multicoloured macaroons and kaleidoscopic cookies that can be baked and enjoyed by all of the family. You’re only a quick recipe search from turning your party favourites into bright bites. Whether you’re taking it easy or hosting your own virtual happy hour, there’s no better way to enjoy the party than getting your taste buds in on the act.

Join Pride Inside
Amnesty International, UK Black Pride, Stonewall and ParaPride have joined forces to host their own virtual celebrations. Expect leading LGBTI+ DJs, comedians and artists to perform and inform across a series of events from Sunday 28 June to Sunday 5 July. The full programme is yet to be confirmed but with so many big names involved, we’re sure it’ll be worth a stream. Find out more here.

Host your own happy hour
Pride celebrations and drinks go hand in hand, and there’s no reason why you can’t host your own virtual bar. Why not share recipes for colourful cocktails with your guests in advance and deliver your own mixology masterclass, or take your pick from the virtual LGBT+ events on offer for a streaming party? If that sounds like too much effort, why not just share a video call with your loved ones while enjoying a Pride-themed playlist?
