The boxers came in boxes labelled "New Fit" and it was clear that the fit had changed during 2017: previously the boxers were a very tight fit (although not uncomfortable given the amount of stretch), but now they have a more relaxed (but not at all baggy) fit. Put another way, there seems to no longer be a need to contemplate buying a size up.
